Directions for Submitting to Newspaper Series
Submitting writing and art to the YWP newspaper series is as easy as 1, 2, 3. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A CHANGE as of Fall 2012.
YWP is publishing your best writing (and art) in 22 newspapers in VT and NH this year and on Vermont Public Radio. The submissions are due Friday at the end of the day and all work is read and considered. Authors will be notified by email if their piece is chosen.
(NOTE: If you are a teacher submitting on behalf of a student, you may get an email implying that you have been chosen; not to worry, go to the link supplied and that author's name will be the one that is published, not yours!)

Excuse
The reason I didn’t come to school on time was because in the middle of the
night I was kidnapped (2:00) by aliens.Two hours later (4:00) I found a
giant red mark on my face, and I was in town square. I had to walk all
the way home, and by the time I got there it was time to wake up. (6:00)
I went to sleep and woke up two hours later (8:00) and walked to
school, It took me three hours (11:00) and then I got lost. It took me
half hour to find the path. (11:30) I finally got to school at 12:00!
DO NOT SUBMIT HERE
Hi, As a reminder, this is NOT the way to submit work to us. Please read the directions and submit as a blog... thanks.

“Oh my god! I lost my phone and I can not see it anywhere. If I don’t find it ,then I think that I might die.” I searched for hours. I even called my friends using the house phone to see if I had left it at their house. Still nothing. I decided to go outside and play for the first time ever. “Ahh, what is that bright orange thing in the sky and why does it hurt my eyes so much?.”
“That’s called the sun, and it is there to light up the world,” my friend Glenn said.
“Well, it’s stupid.”
“Why is it stupid?”
“Because it is burning my eyes."
“Don’t look at it, and it won’t burn your eyes.”
“Okay, hey would you like to play?”
“Sure, what would you like to play?”
“I don’t know. What do people play?”
“Oh, I know. Let’s play basketball?”
“Ya, let’s do that.”
“Okay.”
“Wait, what is basketball?”
“What! You don’t know what basketball is?”
“Nope, I don’t.”
“Well, you need to get out of the house more and live like an actual kid. Why didn’t you leave the house before?”
“I was on my phone playing a game, and what do you mean live like an actual kid? I am an actual kid, because I play on my phone and so does everybody else.”
“You are not an actual kid, because you stay in the house all day and you never came out to hang out with friends, play sports, and enjoy the world. Everybody else uses their phones, but they do not play on them twenty-four seven.”
“FINE! Let’s just play that basketball thing you were talking about.”
Finally, the two boys went off to the park, and Glenn taught him how to play basketball. Then for the next five hours they stayed at the park playing basketball, baseball, and tackle football.
