Black Funnel

During the summer of 2012, my family took a trip to North Carolina and rented a beach house in Rodanthe on the Outer Banks. But I would never forget the reality that took place on August 19, 2012 at about 1:00pm my brother, sister, dad, step-mom, step-sister, step-brother and I were playing in the ocean outside our house. We didn’t notice but the blue, sunny atmosphere was turning into a deep black sky. At about 2:00pm a coast guard in a pickup truck drove on the beach yelling and warning everyone to get off the beach immediately and seek shelter due to severe weather conditions. All of us got out of the water picked up our beach chairs and surfboards and took showers and went inside. We got dressed and ran up to the attic deck to watch the storm. The sky was black. It was kind of cold and the wind was blowing hard. We were all watching the thick black clouds move closer and lightning strikes hit and thunder boomed just a couple of miles away. “Wow dad, I think theres some rotation in the clouds, do you think there might be a tornado?” I asked. “I don’t know.” my dad muttered. “Oh you better hope not!” said Nerissa, my step-mom. After a while of watching the clouds, it started to rain...hard. Read more »

The Silent Town

I stood at the ancient church window, watching the red tail lights disappear. It was very strange. We almost never get visitors here. I looked at my friends. They had huge grins on their faces. Their eyes glinted with mischief and their looks radiated malice. The face of the devil, I thought. I made a fist and grinned. This is going to be fun.

This town used to frolic with joy and happiness. We were in perfect consonance and harmony with nature. There was no hunger or starvation. No disease. No orphans Read more »

6 Word Story

Extinction of species, destruction of life.

The Portal

A man named tom is going to a job interview but on the way to it he goes past a graveyard and sees a necrophiliac. He chases the necrophiliac across the graveyard until he falls into a hole. The hole leads him to an alternate universe where everything is messed up and he has to avoid his alter self or he will die. His goal is to get back to the regular world. In this alternate universe everybody follows stereotypes. So all the white men think that they are gangsters and all the black men are wealthy and smart. There’s only one man that could help him and get him back to his normal universe. Tom goes and asks everyone where to find the old and wise man. He does find the old man and asks him how he can go back home. The old man says that there’s a portal where he can go home from. So the man does go home and he writes a book about his journey.

When I'm 35

I wake up and go downstairs and see my 3 kids playing in the living room.  My wife making pancakes.  I get my suit and tie on to go to work as a lawyer.  Say goodbye to my kids and kiss my wife goodbye.  After work, I come home at 3:00.  Take my 12 year old to hockey, where he plays on the Burlington Bobcats.  Bring my 15 year old to a friend’s house for a sleepover.  Then I bring my 3 year old in the car with me.  Then after that I go home, eat dinner, feed the youngest, and then my wife comes home with my 12 year old and we go out to see a movie.  We have lots and lots of fun!

Swimming

Once I went to a swimming pool with  with a friend. His name was Cj and we both went swimming and it was really fun. We had peanut butter and jelly with some apple juice then we went swimming and I forgot not to swim after you eat and I had a big cramp. I had to get of the water that was not really a fun day because after I got out of the water it was time for the pool to shut down. We just went home and we said that we would try going to the pool tomorrow.

The Crash

It all started on one ordinary afternoon, in my ordinary house, in my ordinary room, that something very un-ordinary happened. I was typing away at my laptop, sending emails to friends just being normal. But then, all of a sudden my inbox was empty of emails! Then my browser Firefox closed, and along with it my computer shut down. I was outraged! Nothing like this had ever happened to me before. But my rage vanished when the lights in my house began to flicker. Then they went out. What was going on? I asked myself, was there just a power out. No, it couldn't be, it was a beautiful sunny afternoon. SUN SUN! Where was the sun? It was gone, in the place where the sun had been there was just darkness. Darkness all around me, soon to perish the Earth. Then some cold, giant, clammy hand wrapped itself around my throat and threw me out my window. I went hurtling through Read more »

Run Away Far Away

I felt powerful running down the gravel road with my favorite scarf trailing behind me like a cape. I felt invincible and a bit nervous with millions of thoughts flashing through my head. I drowned out the questions in my head like where I was going, where I was going to eat, and sleep, and of course would I see my family again. My bare feet started burning from being exposed to the bumpy pavement that was tearing up the soles of my feet. Even though my thighs burn I don’t stop to take a break I don’t know why but I don’t know about a lot of things.   Read more »

The Day the Robots Came

The day the robots came was a day like any other. It was quiet, peaceful, chill, but the robots ruined that by stomping around. The day the robots came was fun, happy, exciting, but that all changed when the robots destroyed all the happy things that anybody had ever loved. The day the robots came was adventurous, crazy, wild, but that all changed when the robots came and enslaved the human race. The day the robots came was like any other and it had been fun the way I had pretended it to be

Chinchilla

on a saturday morning, I woke up, It was 5:30, and still dark. I decided to go outside to see what the day was like. I put on a sweatshirt, and opened the back door, it was dark and surprisingly warm. I took a step out onto wet ground, it must have rained last night. I walked farther into our yard, it smelled a little odd, not entirely bad, just odd. It was so dark I had not even realized that there was an enormous egg. When I shined a flashlight on it, a deep purple reflected half the light, and seemed to suck in the other part. As odd as it sounds, try to imagine a shiny, and completely dark purple. My first thought was that I was dreaming, of course that thought was reluctantly eliminated when I pinched myself. I shined the flashlight around the back, and in a particularly shiny spot the words dýr á himni were engraved. I decided on waking up my parents. I opened the door and clumsily threw my sweatshirt onto the bench beside the door, and suddenly remembered that it was around six in the morning, my parents were still sleeping. In any case, a purple egg in the backyard ruled that out. Then I realized, that at first, they would probably think I was crazy, I decided to tell them that there was something really weird in the back yard. I tiptoed to my parent’s bedroom. Read more »

Home

I never thought I’d see the day
when all things awful would just go away.
All those memories of failing, hurting;
now all it is, is pacing,
back and forth, back and forth,
remembering the pain, the horror.
It’s history, I’ll never feel it again.

Patience

The small dog waited in the upper part of an old abandoned house nearby his own. It was waiting for its owner, looking out of a large window without glass. He had been waiting for almost three weeks now, but the last time he had seen his owner seemed like years to the dog . His owner had left the house with his large hunting shotgun. The dog knew this meant he would be gone for a long time. But not this long. It seemed unnatural. In the past he had left and came back hauling a large deer, and the time before that he had come home with two ducks. The dog wondered what he would bring home this time, or if he would return at all. But the small dog was patient, scanning the horizon with his keen eyes. Waiting on the hard floor of the wood house in the high loft. He didn’t know how long he would have to wait, but he did know he would stay in that loft, looking at the flat land ahead and the large mountains beyond until he saw his owner’s large strong body come over the horizon.

Waiting

I sit looking out the wooden window of the old wooden house on the hill, staring out and watching cars and trucks go by. The wind blows in my face as I stare out at the landscape, my ears flapping. I am alone, abandoned by my owners. I sit and wait. They said they were coming right back. But it’s been forever. They had packed up and left, saying they were coming back; every day telling me they loved me. Then leaving me like this. I jump down and go down the stairs. I go into the living room and see the broken glass; I remember the time Kevin had thrown the baseball to Charlie and accidentally smashed the window. I remember all the times I ran down that hill and waited for Kevin and Charlie to come home from school. I remember all the times we would sit out in the yard and watch the sunset or the fireworks at Fourth of July.
I walk back upstairs and sit at the window sill. I will wait until they come back, I will always be there for them. All those memories will stay with me, I remember when they came to the pound and took me out of that miserable place, loving me and holding me tightly. I remember all the times I ran into their arms, and they would pick me up and hold me, not letting me go. I remember their tight hugs; they were always warm and loving.

Smile

One smile in the night. One smile set free. That blazes the dark, and churns the seas. Eyes that believe eyes that understand. Souls that do wander, forgettng things planned. Hair that curls, hair that flys, hair that whirls and then twirls and then crys. Hands that hold, hands that let go. A voice that talks, a voice that sings. A voice unknown but that wanders and rings. Forever the eyes and the soul set free, forever the smile that might just be the key.

Rescued

It was a moment I’ll never forget, when my heart was pounding and my lungs struggling to keep me alive. My lips brushed the dull water and my eyes saw a faint light of loneliness but forgiveness. I did not deserve to live. I do not deserve this world to hold me together. I was a liar, a thief and a heart breaker because of my childhood. Alone all my life after my family carelessly gave me away. I have been in seven different families and I fled each one of them. I don’t know why. I didn’t feel whole. I was useless anyways.
I fell in the deep waters to leave and to let everyone have a peaceful life. But I guess someone had hope in me and loved me, because I was rescued.

Running

The quiet sound of the sunset, the wind blowing threw the treee’s branches. As I run towards nothing. I feel free, like a huge weigh has been pushed off my shoulders. The only thing I can hear is the wind blowing as I stomp my feet on the hard, and cold ground barefooted.

A Moment in Time

That moment was a moment I’ll never forget for the rest of my life. That moment was the moment when I met you. The first time I met you my heart skipped a beat, It’s like my whole world Just stopped. So that day, at that time, I met you, The love of my life. I am forever yours and I know that you will always want to be mine. I know I will love you till the day I die, Even when I am dead, I will still will love you. This moment I will always remember. This moment will always be mine, This moment was a moment in time.

Computer & Tumba

COMPUTER

Hey you! Why are you using me? Clean me! No one touch me anymore! Log me off and shut me down!

TUMBA

I looked angry and said, “I won’t clean you up and you are going to do my work and I am never going to shut you down. Understand me Mr.?”

The computer starts to cry. “Please, please I am so tired of people, like Mrs. Gendimenico, touching me.”

I said, “Not today mister, I have to type my paper for Mr. Boyers. Mr. Boyers gives me too much homework. I need you to do all of this for me.”

“You guys do not treat me well. People don’t clean me, they look up bad stuff, and my speakers hurt from all of the terrible music you listen to.”

“I listen to good music,” I said.

“Oh please. You listen to bad rap music and music by Lil’ Wayne. The only music you listen to that I like is African Tanzanian songs.”

“You SHUT UP,” I screamed. “I have too much work due to have you complain.”

“Ok, you win, I will do everything you want, but don’t put your dirty hands on me after I finish your work.”

“Whatever.”

So, the computer did all of the work that Tumba wanted, and when it was done the computer blew itself up. Tumba never treated a computer badly again. He learned his lesson.

Package

It had finally arrived. I had been waiting for it for weeks, weeks that felt like years. I read the address “Amazon.” It was bigger than I  thought it should have been, but then again I had only seen pictures of it online. The side of the box read “this side up, fragile.” I ran to the kitchen and grabbed the scissors. As I was running back i tripped. Mom told me never to run with scissors but I was just so excited. My mom must have heard the thud because she came in to check. I saw her jaw drop as she looked down to my stomach. She then screamed and i looked down to see the handles of the scissors sticking out of my stomach. That's when the white hot pain began and we rushed to here to the hospital.

Package

It was around 4 o’clock in the afternoon when I heard one of my favorites sounds, the beeping of a UPS Truck as it was backing down my street. I leapt up from the kitchen table where I’d been working on my algebra homework and shot to the door.

Yes! It was coming to my house! I flung the door open with so much force that it swung back on its hinges and hit the wall with a loud BANG! The UPS truck was now parking by the curb in front of our lawn. I stood impatiently as he got out of the car and slid the largest box I’d ever seen from the back. It was so large that he had to put it on one of the cart-like-things. He rolled the box across the yard incredibly slowly, making two long ruts in the grass as he went. I started to drum my fingers on the door frame. Finally after what felt like a million years he reached the door.

“Hello! he chirped.

“Hey! Don’t you need me to sign something?” I replied, annoyed by his sluggishness. Read more »

Sunset

The sunset was bright with color as the woman ran. She was barefoot, her feet slapping the worn gravel road as she moved on, into the setting sun.
The dark path ahead taunted her, pulling her closer, yet pushing her away, like the tide on the beach she had just left behind.
The woman knew that warmth was waiting for her at the end of the road, but the sun was nearly gone and the air was chilly. There was nothing behind her for many miles. Nothing but the empty beach and the many voices of the whispering waves.
She had left her shoes at home, not wanting to carry them as she walked. That had been many hours before, when the sun was higher in the morning sky. Now her bright beacon was almost gone.
The woman ran on, on to the end of the road. On into the setting sun.

Run

My mother was my best friend, but my papa was mean to us. He hit us and cursed. Mama told me it was his way of saying “I love you”. I didn’t believe her. Love is beautiful, not ugly and bloody. Mama passed away a couple months later. She left me with papa, so drunk all the time and never home. But I had no more tears to let touch the floor, for I have done it too many times before.

Seven years later, I couldn’t stand the fact that I was alone, so I ran. With my best friend’s favorite shawl she left me behind, I ran. Air screaming in my ears, my knees unable to bend, and my lips and hands chapped from all the hard work I did for papa which never paid off. But I kept going, because I wanted my mama, my best friend, back.

On Top of the Mountain

The chairlift slowly makes its way up the mountain. Its metal creaks softly in the cold atmosphere surrounding me. The only other sound I hear is the quiet whisper of the wind. I sit on the cold, hard, black metal of the one-person chairlift as I near the top of the mountain. I look out into the wilderness and see snow capped mountains and trees at my sides, and a huge, gray sky above me. When I reach the top, I point my skis in front of me, and slowly, glide off the chairlift, and onto the soft, white, winter snow.

What's In Store?

Tic toc tic toc
What an amazing book
with words that float off of the pages
and into my mind,
that makes me thrilled to read more
with so much time left
of a clock ticking.
It keeps me waiting
and dreaming
of the upcoming sunrise,
to lay my hand on a book
that I can't wait to read.
It make me wonder...
Whats in store?
