Real Americans

calling all the real americans
those who fight for freedom
and justice
and what they believe in

calling all the real americans
those who speak
and those who
listen

calling all the real americans
those who admit to
their wrongs
and try to fix them

calling all the real americans
those who learn from our past
take action in the present
and hope for a future

calling all the real americans

Darkness

the darkness
holds my
silent tears.

as it
takes me farther from
my home.

but i knew it would.

the darkness remembers
my hurried footsteps to the
meeting spot.

and how it carried me
over from my country
into someone else's.

but i was ready.

the darkness consoles me
with the hope of
safety.

because it's safer in the dark.

the darkness
remembers my hurried escape
from the truck.

the darkness
heard the tears of my sister.
the only one i could say goodbye to.

because goodbyes are for temporary, silence is forever.

...

the darkness
remembered the girl that
ran in the hopes of a new life

and the darkness
knew her hardships
and troubles that carried her further away.

after all, many had come before her

but now all the darkness

Spark Plugs

Halfway

halfway between
the switch blinks
as the fire is kindled
to start a nation
or a rebellion
or a war

one idea can ripple
across
and through
the world
to touch millions

and we just
go
in our turning ways
desperate for change
innovation and success

but its halfway between
that the fire
is born

Noises

Quiet

Quiet
is the house
of screaming
silence

Quiet
are the stars
blasting
their twinkles

Quiet
is the crawling
rays of the sun
reaching their hands over the
horizon

Quiet
is the gentle
tapping of my computer keys

Different; Inferior

"they are
different

they are
wrong

you must not
talk to
them

or
be near
them

you must
ignore
them.

and
belittle
them"

is what i'm told
but what if i don't
want to
listen?

"you must not
drink
their
water

or use
their
bathrooms

or learn from
their
schools

or play with
their
children"

is what i'm told
but what if i don't
want to
listen?

"you
have the
right

to the
front
of the bus
they
do
not

you
have the
right

to safe
and
clean
they
do
not"

is what i'm told
but what if i don't
want to
listen?

Unsmiling Strangers

Lyrics From "Waving From A Window" From The Musical Dear Evan Hansen
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfnMvo87fQU

On the outside, always looking in

am i truly heard?
truly seen?

Will I ever be more than I've always been?

heard and seen for
who i
see myself as?

'Cause I'm tap, tap, tapping on the glass

or how i
wish to be seen?

I'm waving through a window

or am i alone
in a world full of unsmiling

I try to speak, but nobody can hear

strangers?

So I wait around for an answer to appear

i keep trying to
find those who smile back at me

While I'm watch, watch, watching people pass
I'm waving through a window

Can anybody see,

did i catch a hint?

The Girl

**All Lyrics By City and Colour**
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS8xDo-qM8w

I wish I could do better by you
'Cause that's what you deserve

You sacrifice so much of your life
In order for this to work

While I'm off chasing my own dreams
Sailing around the world
Please, know that I'm yours to keep
My beautiful girl

When you cry a piece of my heart dies
Knowing that I may have been the cause

If you were to leave, fulfill someone else's dreams
I think I might totally be lost

You don't ask for no diamond rings
No delicate string of pearls

That's why I wrote this song to sing
My beautiful girl

Oh, oh, oh, oh
