Caretakers of the Land
Submitted by Lexie on Sun, 04/14/2013 - 1:40pmSomeone who gets up before dawn
A person we can depend on
We need caretakers of the land
Who's not afraid of calloused hands
To milk cows morning and night
Fighting the elements against a blight
Spending days planting and harvesting fields
At the market selling their yields
Stay up all night with a newborn lamb
And all day cooking up lots of jam
Someone who can clear trees Read more »
Broken Promise
Submitted by Lexie on Fri, 03/29/2013 - 11:49pmI didn't mean to
But I did
Tell that secret
I promised
We would kept hid
I See Strength
Submitted by Lexie on Fri, 03/29/2013 - 11:12pmWhen seeing
Is not the same as believing
When everything goes wrong
It's hard to be strong
Out on the street
Life is far from sweet
We come and go
A bit numb, but we know
The grass grows greener
Underneath your feet
Living very close to dying
Trying not to be crying
On a park bench I yawn
I know you want me gone
Just by your demeanor
But even a smile would be a treat
When seeing
Is not the same as believing
When everything goes wrong
It's hard to be strong
My heart just wants to break
Somedays it's more that I can take
What am I learning
As my stomach is churning
So I struggle on and on
To find a place to belong
I see you
Please see me
Where is my hope?
The strength to help me cope
This is no longer funny
More like an agony
When seeing
Is not the same as believing
When everything goes wrong
It's hard to be strong
There's no need for you to pretend
You could just turn around again
Love can be your legacy
It helps exponentially
For today, be my friend
Homelessness can find an end
Two Choices
Submitted by Lexie on Fri, 03/29/2013 - 10:17pmWe have only two choices
One we like, one we need
It's time to raise our voices
Build a dike, or grow weeds
We have great joys
And even more concerns
Children can play with toys
Or we can watch our Earth burn
Our planet is a great creation
But its about to go back to just dust
Somehow its off its axis rotation
What do we need to adjust?
Precious fresh water
Needed for all survival
Even more as the climate is hotter
Drill for more, on demand arrival
The air that we breathe
Can be clean or polluted
Generations before bequeathed
Filled with benzene, or good for fruit
The very Earth beneath our feet
Covered in concrete, or still tillable land
Do we really want to be obsolete?
It depends on what is planned
The choice is ours now
Because later there may not be one
What do we disallow?
Garbage by the ton?
We have only two choices
One we like, one we need
Raise your voice
We can succeed!
To Be A Robot
Submitted by Lexie on Thu, 02/07/2013 - 8:11pmTo be a robot, wouldn'yt it be nice
Spending your time on internet sites
Bought for a deal, at a lower selling price
Memories on a storage device
Always being switched on and off
Loaded with software from Apple or Microsoft
You don't need to be taught
Old and dusty, you're stuck in the attic loft
Not having to pay rent or bills
Or knowing you were made in a factory mill
Sometimes with zero frills
No emotion shown, when soda is spilled
The advantages of being a robot
Life is only pixels and dots
And that of another's thoughts
Your cord gets tangled, tied into knots
No one cares how much you weigh
Not able to enjoy the endless buffet
Or the pain of dental decay
To sleep, unplug, and uncharge away
Smiles are a function of human mouths
Tears don't happen, and neither doubts
No scars to heal, or wrinkles or spots
Wouldn't it be great to be a robot

Invisible
Submitted by Lexie on Sat, 01/19/2013 - 2:51pmInvisible
Unseen and unheard
Invisible, is the word
I just can't believe
Unremarkable
Invisible me
Am I Invisible?
Submitted by Lexie on Sat, 01/19/2013 - 2:33pmAm I invisible?
Why can't you see?
Here I am
Right in front of you
Am I invisible?
Why can't you hear?
As I shout and scream
You never notice me
Am I invisible?
Why can't you feel?
I cry my tears
They are wet and very real
Am I invisible?
What's wrong with you?
You never show you care
I am alone and scared
Am I invisible?
Here I am, where are you?
Gone as usual
Thinking only about you, you, you
Am I invisible?
No, I am not !
You may be forgiven
But I haven't forgot
Ignore Me
Submitted by Lexie on Sat, 01/19/2013 - 2:11pmI am here
I am real
I can't be forgotten
I won't be ignored
I am homeless
I am hungry
I am unloved
But I am worthy.
I am alive
I am free
I haven't forgotten
So why do you ignore me?
I am homeless
I am hungry
I am unloved
But I am worthy
I want a new life
I am willing to work
Please don't forget
Please don't ignore
I am homeless
I am hungry
I am unloved
But I am worthy
I am not here
I have moved on
You did forget
You have ignored
I have a new home
And my spirit is fed
I was found worthy of love
I am now dead
The Clock is Ticking
Submitted by Lexie on Sat, 01/19/2013 - 2:02pmThe clock is ticking, with each chime
A signal of passing time
The clock just struck one
I have so much to get done
Tick tock, tick tock
The beating sound of the clock
The chimes ring it's now two
Dear mommy I love you
Now as the clock strikes three
Did I thank you for caring for me
Tick tock, tick tock
Time continues, marked by this clock
As the clock hits four
I remember what I did this day a year before
The clocks hands mark it's five
Grateful to be alive
Tick tock, tick tock
Sitting hear listen to soft rock
Suddenly it is six o'clock
Time for wonderful dinner talk
As the day continues
The clock seven, time for the news
The clock moves on to eight
Back to homework, and Alexander the Great
Tick tock, tick tock
Nine now struck on the clock
It seems to be moving faster
Because the clock just hit ten
Is this how my day ends?
Yawning, and having trouble sleeping
Why is my alarm clock beeping?
As I look over, it's only eleven
Oops, I forgot to say my prayers to heaven
The clock ends my day at twelve
I shut it off, putting on my bookshelf
Tick tock, tick tock
That annoying sound of a clock
Is marking time by ticking
For you and me
Tick tock, tick tock
No more just counting down

He Had a Dream, I Have One Wish
Submitted by Lexie on Sat, 01/19/2013 - 1:27pmMartin Luther King Jr was just one person
As he stood side by side with Jesse Jackson
He spoke of change using just words
With the sentence from this now famous person
He changed the way many thought
The use of non-violence was the way he fought
His words and dream lives on
He's become an American icon
What his words mean to me, speak up and be heard
Let the idea of bullying be one that is absurd
Stand up and make a presence
Treat others with love and reverence
Don't be someone who starts the violence
And definitely don't be the one to stand in silence
So while his words "I have a dream",are remembered
I still live with the memory of ten years ago September
He had a dream, I have one wish
I want to live a life ending hateful anguish
Here and Now
Submitted by Lexie on Sat, 01/05/2013 - 4:30pmIt seems slightly different

Life sometimes really sucks
Submitted by Lexie on Fri, 10/12/2012 - 3:56pmOkay, I get it. But, really, why?
Just when I thought my life couldn't get any harder, someone else decides to throw down.
I am not looking forward to next week. Last week was bad enough.
It was the second time I have held the hand of someone as they drew their last breath, as they spoke their last words.
At the funeral though, people kept telling me and mom that, that is a gift. From who?
We both looked at each other, like, "what did you just tell us? Really? How was that helpful?" Anyway, we've dealt with all that comes with the passing of a life, and the responsibilities. Mom, definitely, a lot more than me. And, I know just by looking at her, she is exhausted, and I can't help her. She's been there for me, when no one else has. So, why does she always get 'tapped" by friends and family to be the responsible one to deal with things? We just emptied a house of every memory, just to get another phone call, to deal with another.
So, we are leaving for I don't know how long to deal with more life-ending events. This sucks. I know it happens, and it is a part of life, but this illness and death stuff is really hard, when no one else steps up to deal with it.
I guess I am proud of mom for being there when no one else will, but I don't want to leave home, but home is with her. Leaving is the hardest thing to do.
Leaving
Submitted by Lexie on Fri, 10/12/2012 - 3:43pmDone receiving
And believing
Now leaving
No longer decieved
Or any more frost heaves
Only memories of theives
Done retrieving
And believing
Just leaving
Lives so interweaved
So many things to grieve
In utter disbelief
Done believing
Maybe even achieving
Gone, gone, leaving

Surviving Hatred
Submitted by Lexie on Fri, 10/12/2012 - 3:33pmMissing home, where I knew love
Was it easier to get disposed of?
Stop thinking you're really offering help
With words that are of a rabid whelp
Life once pleasant and serene
Obliterated by your daily hateful routine
I know who you really are
And I forever carry the scars
As I pick up the pieces and start my life anew
I plan to wash you away with a strong shampoo
Give your assault on my life a rest
I'm passing yet another stress test
No need to hurt me any longer
I will survive and just get stronger
Stranded
Submitted by Lexie on Fri, 09/28/2012 - 6:38pmSarah waited years to earn enough money to afford her week long vacation. Her dreams of leaving her small hometow for adventures in the city finally came true. What to see first after arriving at the airport, she had long ago planned.
Sarah took a taxi from the airport to the Impeccible Towers, a place travel magazines worldwide praised for their absolutely amazing views from the glass elevators that scaled the outside of the towers, up 150 floors.
Sarah paid the taxi driver and rush through the front door of the Towers. She paid her entrance fee for the elevator ride. She quietly stood in line waiting to get in the elevator up to the Observation Deck. Finally, on board the elevator with 9 others, as the doors close, the crowd waiting yelled, "Don't get stuck!"
Up the elevator went, floor after floor, with a slight hestitation every other floor. Was this a way of counting how far from the start the elevator had climbed? Sarah didn't care, but another passenger seemed nervous by each jarring motion. As the elevator climbed higher, the jolt became stronger. The view out the glass elevator was unforgettable. But, this one other passenger, just kept counting the jolts.
"65, 66, 67, 68"
"Enough with the numbers, we all can count", said this angry lady.
"69, 70, 71", as a few other passengers joined in, including two small children, about 6 and 9 years of age. Read more »
Silly Writing Habits
Submitted by Lexie on Fri, 09/28/2012 - 5:09pmWho's on first?
Who's on second?
Who knows?
I don't care!
Silly stage act
Of Costello and Abbott
Butter, milk, yogurt, and cheese
I eat them any time I please
A must have when I climb rocks
Is those Darn Tough socks!
One thing in common
Is their name of Cabot
Kill the wabbit!
Kill the wabbit!
This funny little cartoon
A parody Wagner opera
Listening to Elmer
Causes bad speech habits
But as you can see
There are no guarantees
As the rain drops and plops
That my writing will stop
Even when I'm in Rabet
I have a writing habit

Submitted by Lexie on Fri, 09/28/2012 - 4:14pmThere you are!
You help me
You hurt me
On to success

You all the time
Sometimes you're good
Sometimes you're bad
But most of the time
You're just my habit.
Heart of Sand
Submitted by Lexie on Fri, 09/21/2012 - 2:41amAs the waves come closer to the shore
I can hear the ocean roar
Still I sit on the damp sandy beach
Wondering what lessons life still has to teach
For my love I draw a heart
Who seems to be a world apart
But here I sit, feeling alone
While you're in another time zone
Looking out to the sea, I hope and pray
This heart I drew doesn't get washed away
So into the heart I place seashells
A place forever our love to dwell
Soon to be home to see you again
But for now, this sandy heart is my friend

You Don't Know Me
Submitted by Lexie on Fri, 08/10/2012 - 7:46pmYou don't know me
But you think you do
You get others to agree
But none of you have a clue
Who are you to sit back and judge
When you don't know what I've been through
And not notice that you have a grudge
And your perceptions are a bit askew
You don't know me
But you think you do
You get others to agree
But none of you have a clue
Who are you to judge me?
You are so quick to hate
And too blind to see
It's time to set the record straight
You don't know me
But you think you do
You get others to agree
But none of you have a clue
You don't know my sorrow
Some of you don't care
I mask it with feelings borrowed
I learned in a prayer
You're too quick to speculate
Spreading lies of hate
But I've cried myself to sleep
But hold onto my dream
You don't know me
But you think you do
You get others to agree
But none of you have a clue
Tell yourself whatever you will
But don't be fooled
You don't know me
And you never ever will
Wings To Soar
Submitted by Lexie on Wed, 08/01/2012 - 5:06pm*In my home there were many words. Those of wisdom and kindness. Of laughter and fun, and always love. But mostly those of hope in the future. Thanks mom!
I believe in you
You believe in me
After everything we've been through
Our faith seems to be the only key
You gave me love
You taught me to sing
With a gentle shove
I have to spread my wings
Up, up I go
Soaring high
Into turbulent air flow
It's not easy to fly
But even if I should fall
You will be there
Within moments of a call
Always showing me you care
But I still need to learn
Even more
I yearn
To soar
From the top..................
Submitted by Lexie on Wed, 08/01/2012 - 5:04pm
I am nervous about the next steps. maybe, I should go back to the beginning. Okay, maybe not that far back.
How about end of May, on a Saturday morning, this year.
I went to an audition, and actually one of the girls from class was also there. We both auditioned, and it was weird, because she was on the other side of the room from me, and we both had to perform at the same time, in front of different set of judges.
I recited only 2 sentences from the page, and I was cut off, and told "Enough!", while she was being encouraged to continue with hers. Then she pulls out her guitar and starts to sing. I didn't bring mine, or even a instrumental soundtrack CD. I was so nervous, especially hearing so many others sing the same song and genre over and over, I made a last minute change. I didn't even get through the first stanza, before this guy yells, "ENOUGH!".
I then, said, "But, I didn't even get to the chorus, could I try again?"
He said, "No. That's enough."
He didn't look up. There was no eye contact. No, hand shake, or any kind of acknowledgement that he was really even paying attention. I felt like a big failure. It was only made worse, when I looked across the room, and there was my classmate, still being asked to perform, and laughing with the judges.
As I walked to meet up with my mom, the only thing I could say to her was, "I blew it. They don't want me." Read more »
Cruel Complications
Submitted by Lexie on Fri, 07/20/2012 - 1:05pmThe moment one learns English, complications set in. *
Definitions and spelling, causing nothing by feelings of chagrin
Take for example the following lines
English is filled with vocabulary landmines
We could see from the beach how the rough seas seized the small boat.
Baloney, I don't eat bologna sandwiches!
So who won first place for being able to sew?
To know what the meaning of no is a good thing.
The frypan was too hot, it charred the chard.
Of course I love coarse ground pepper.
Yesterday many bizarre things happened at the Art Bazaar.
Why is fiscal capital a concern for no one at our Capitol?
Have you ever seen a burro burrow?
When their family comes to visit there is always some fight because of what they're not not wanting to do.
The ceiling needs a new coat of sealing.
Even a bass has a base to rest on, it's called a peg
Or did I mean the bass rests on the silty, muddy lake bottom?
Cent, sent, scent, sense all sound the same
Oh, learning English seems like a very cruel game.
2035
Submitted by Lexie on Mon, 07/09/2012 - 5:42pmIn the year 2035
If any of us are still alive
Mayan calendar so contrived
That no one would survive
Our current year of 2012
Later it will be on history shelves
So into our future I'm going to delve
In and of itself
Over the next 23 years
We overcome many of our fears
With a lot of hard work and repairs
A place so much better for all of our heirs
Our county has made many changes
Some were unavoidable alterations
Like solar powered stove ranges
And better wireless communications
From the traffic problem at the 5 Corners
And more energy efficient living quarters
To educating an influx of even more foreigners
That came in from every border
Because of true equal opportunity
We've built even stronger communities
All our efforts to recycle weren't a waste
New items are made and old replaced
Cars no longer use gasoline
And our air quality is purer and clean
We have set a standard to be highly proficient
Instead of doing nothing and being insufficient
We ended hunger and starvation
And even water fluoridation
So much more socially connected
It's amazing who got elected
How did that happen, who was confused?
But overall, things have greatly improved
What is the Perfect Trip?
Submitted by Lexie on Fri, 07/06/2012 - 4:09pmIt's hard to describe the perfect road trip. Is it short trip, or is it long? Is it within the state, or across the country, or maybe even international? Is it ending time with family? or lots of money on a cruise ship?
I have been on so many, I can't just pick one and say, YES!, this is my perfect trip.
I know which ones I've enjoyed just because they were fun - spending 3 weeks in England, or going to the Santa Cruz Beach and Boardwalk, Thanksgiving in Germany, a long weekend Christmas shopping in Manhattan.
Then there were the trips that were because I had to go along with mom while she was working, but she did take me to museums and 'educational' events, with a few amusement parks mixed in - two weeks in Washington DC, a week in San Francisco, another month of travel through Virginia and North Carolina, which included Williamsburg, Yorktown, Roanoke, Cape Hatteras, and Kitty Hawk.
