Ol' Captain Babbit's Fishing Story.
Submitted by pineapple_babbit on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 9:34pm“Well, hello all of you landlubbers. Did you come here to listen to ol’ Captain Babbit tell you a good old fish story? Well,” she says as she dips her plastic pipe into bubble solution and sits in an old, over stuffed chair, “You’ve come to the right place.” Bubbles pour out of her pipe as she thinks. “How about a new story, one I’ve never told before, just because it happened just a couple of days ago. Yeppers. Ol’ Captain Babbit went fishing on the sea from a port just off of Boston. Sit down and listen. Believe what you wish but this is a mostly true fish tale.”
“It was about seven in the morning when we boarded the craft. It was a long boat made just for fishing. In the harbor, the water was calm. It was low-tide and the ducks were swimming around. There was one named Drew. I broke off a piece of my peanut butter sandwich for him. That made him happy…. Read more »

All is Well in the [my] Universe
Submitted by Poet_Jessica on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 9:11pmFinally the [my] world is right.
The [my] universe is in the correct order.
It's on a good path.
Let's all rejoice!
Because for once
Just what I wanted to happen,
Happened.
He is my Best Friend
[Best Ever.]
And he tells me everything.
"I want to break up with her,
Or whatever,
She is so annoying,
Ahhhh omfg help."
Were his precise words.
I love those words.
Now I am listening to Mrs. Robinson
By Simon & Garfunkel.
"Here's to you,
Mrs. Robinson.
Jesus loves you more than you will know."
Even though I'm not her
Jesus loves me right now.
Well,
He always has.
But now I see it in action.
All is well in the [my] universe.
Rainbow Summer
Submitted by ParisianTwist on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 7:58pmBecause you know I love the rain,
The way it shiver-shakes down my river arms,
glittering each quiver-silver thought
in the cold light of morning,
Because the thunder and lightning
Breath-quickens my heart,
racing wildly into the frantic-lovely
come-together nights,
Because this rainbow summer
colour-snakes its way over my peachy skin,
cloth-fitting silk-dripping over each careful curve,
waking gently the sunshine in your eyes,
Because I'm free.

Lust
Submitted by ParisianTwist on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 7:45pmI painted her body with
"Broken Social Scene"
dripping into my eardrums,
gently walking my fingers across the canvas
watercolour tears dripping
violet nipples onto porcelain breasts,
I can see her knees,
bent softly beneath crimson silk
struggling to cling to her sloping curves
draped upon the chestnut chaise.
Pomegranate lips blend into the walls
her face nothing but a blotch:
Bruised and angry;
Full of need–
She is Lust.
She is on my mind.

Words That Should Mean Something But Don't
Submitted by Poet_Jessica on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 7:25pmThese are only two of my infamous words that should mean something but don't. I need to go eat dinner at the moment but I will add more through different posts! Add more and use frequently!
relatable - [REE-layt-able] a piece of writing that identifies easily with many people across a large spectrum of readers. Her poem was very relatable.
connectamizoid - [cahn-eckt-ah-mizz-OID] anything that connects two items together. Can you hand me a Lego connectamizoid?
Shield Her
Submitted by Poet_Jessica on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 6:52pmI want to protect her
From the unknown in her eyes
Deep in their depths
She's got something to hide.
I want to reach out
And take her hand
Guide her so maybe
She'll have a chance.
She needs to know
How much I care
I'll fortify her defenses
That are currently so bare.
I want wrap my arms around her
Shield her from the world
She's delicate like a butterfly
She needs to let her wings unfurl.
I want to save her
Because she's breakable
But even so
She's doubly as beautiful.
Music
Submitted by pepper_tree on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 6:52pmThis hurts
So much.
The only
Things
That would
Stop
The pain
Would be
Him
Or
My music.
He's not
Here
And
He won't
Be.
At least
Music
Hasn't
Abandoned me.
Yet.

Memories
Submitted by pepper_tree on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 6:33pm(Mostly, these won't make sense, I just had to put them somewhere.)
We're arch enemies, even though we're only pretending.
Well, Canada's pretty big...
New Mexican Sombreros! Awesome!
L'ordinateur!
Wanna dance?
So... 3 times this night?
Mr. C, Josh took my pencil!
By the looks of this finger, I think we're gonna have a fire drill.
Oh my god, my head...
Deja vu, huh?
Want some popcorn?
That was fun, thanks for inviting me.
Ooh, give me the toy truck!
I will throw this lacrosse ball at his head...
Yeah, I'm okay...
Dude, these rapids are awesome!
Aww, crap, look, instant bruise!
Chels, you okay?
Adios!
Letter
Submitted by pepper_tree on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 6:21pmShe dreamt of you.
She wanted you to know,
But she doubts she'll ever
See you again.
She cried for you.
She didn't want you to know
Because what if
You thought she was too weak?
She thought of you
And stopped breathing
Just capturing your
Face in her head.
She thinks of you
Too much, you know,
But it's okay.
She stops in goal,
And thinks of you,
Sees your curls and
Smile
And every time she's
Done that
No one could score.
She likes you,
You know.
She knows you don't know
Or maybe don't care
And she tried to tell you
Anonymously
But now you'll never know.
Maybe you laughed at her words.
At least she got some closure.
And, you don't know that she's
Thrilled
At the fact
You said "Adios",
And that's the word
That she'll associate
With you
The rest of her life.
It doesn't matter if
You don't know
Because right now
She's happy.
She dreamt of you,
You know.

At the Door (8)
Submitted by NeonKiwi on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 3:21pmLexi slid into her seat behind Pat. Mr. Larch, their history teacher, stood up and the class settled down a bit. A girl was standing at the front of the room. She had jet black hair with red streaks running rampant throughout its entirety. It was pulled back into a pony tail behind her head, except for one long slice which slid down the right side of her face. Her eyes were a bright green, contrasting highly with the red streaks. She wore a black shirt with long sleeves and a collar sewn to the top and checkered pink and white cargo pants.
"Class," Mr. Larch began, "we have a new student. Her name is Leslie. She just moved here from New Jersey. Say hello to Leslie, class."
"Hello, Leslie," the class stated in monotone.
"Leslie, you can take the seat behind Lexington." He pointed at the seat behind Lexi. Leslie looked at Lexi, unsure if she was the right person. Lexi gave her a small smile and nodded. Leslie walked to her new seat, her face expressionless.
Debt
Submitted by offreadin on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 1:34pmI owe you a debt
that I'm unable to repay
and that bugs me
because
I hate being
in debt; indebted
to anyone
but I think
you're the one person I'm okay with owing
because you always show up
at the right time
in the perfect place.
it's not that I object to you
I object to your shining armor
and white steed
and perfect poise
while I trip and fall.
I hate it when
I twirl my crown around my finger
just to drop it
and you pick it up
and gallantly return it
It's not that I hate
being rescued
It's that I hate
needing to be rescued.
Raw
Submitted by Usagi on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 11:44amMidnight last night found me hunched over a mass-produced desk in a dorm at Johnson State, scribbling frantically sideways in the thin yellow stripe of light from the hall. This is what I wrote.
Red for passion, red for pain.
Nothing has any meaning
beyond which I assign it.
Everything seems connected now. Everything
makes sense.
Late night writer's ramblings.
Will I understand in the morning?-->
& yet it's slipping away even as I think.
Will I dream of him tonight?-->
It awakened in me a longing, one I wish I didn't feel.
But I want that desire satisfied.-->
I want his
lips on mine
again. I want
his hand on
me. I want
his voice
behind me,
speaking poetry.-->
This isn't good.-->
Yet I almost like it--
the longing.-->
That's the problem.

I like the idea of kissing a girl, but I've never had the desire to kiss one in particular.--> Read more »
Sonnet for Eliza
Submitted by Usagi on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 11:18amShe wants to stand in the dark, in the rain,
in the swirling waves of a dim summer storm.
She wants to let thunder writhe with her pain,
let lighting embrace her tall pale reaching form.
She sucks in the scent of the bruise-colored sky,
fills her thin lungs with the storm's violent breath.
She tells me lightning is how she'd want to die,
a shock of a booming, shouting quick death.
She stands straight in the rain, stone, ghostly thin.
The world is taking what she doesn't give.
She's begging for lightning to enter her skin,
release her from life she can't know how to live.
In a reality she can't entirely feel,
only death's welcome sharp haze can be real.

Awed By Nature
Submitted by Parrotfish802 on Sun, 06/22/2008 - 10:31pmAgain
But worse
First
There's lightening
Then suddenly
Thunder rumbles
Shaking everything
And I
Mean
EVERYTHING
Rain pounds
On the house
Like a child
In the cold
I have
One little lightbulb
Illuminating my world
Lightening does the rest
I'm more scared
Than I'll admit
But I know
I'm less scared
Than I feel
I'm surprisingly calm
Just letting nature
Do what it's going to do
Worrying won't help
The rain
And lightening
And thunder
Is all very calming
The sirens
Not so much
I'm glad
I decided
To let my camera
Roll
I'll have it all
On tape
This seems
Like the most
Extreme
Storm
I've ever
Been in
It's calming down
I think
Not as much rain
Or thunder and lightening
That's good
I guess
My Greatest Treasure
Submitted by NeonKiwi on Sun, 06/22/2008 - 10:14pmWe are
sisters
of reality.
Bound to
its limits,
bound to
dream big.
We are the
shunned,
we are the
wise,
we are the
same.
Perhaps not
in the
literal sense,
perhaps not
entirely
in our opinions,
but that's alright.
We two,
we fit with
one another.
You tall with
brown hair
and brown eyes,
me with my
ever-average
height,
blonde hair,
and blue eyes.
Some may go as far
as to say we're
opposites,
but that isn't true.
You think I'm
more than I'll say,
and I think the
same of you.
It all evens out.
Basically.
Often times
things aren't
simple for us,
they aren't easy,
but that's why
I'm here for you,
and you for me.
You've been there
for as long
as I can
remember.
Somehow it started
when one said
something along
the lines of,
"Do you want to be
my best friend?"
You'd think it a
foolish thing
for one to say,
but we were young,
five years old.
And you know what?
We still are
to this day.
Best friends.

Catch up to the past,
Realize you shine,

A Brief Reflection
Submitted by Poet_Jessica on Sun, 06/22/2008 - 9:53pmI don't know how,

you felt things shift.

Yesterday
Submitted by pepper_tree on Sun, 06/22/2008 - 7:29pmI was here yesterday.
Today, my emotions are non-existent.
Yesterday, I dug a hole and looked down.
I fell in today.
Tomorrow, I'll lay there.
Maybe I'll try to get out.
Maybe I'll fail.
I was here yesterday.
Now I remember.
So were you.
Today, you're gone.
So am I.
We aren't gone together.
Tomorrow, I'll cry.
You won't think about me.
I was here yesterday.
Done Now
Submitted by pepper_tree on Sun, 06/22/2008 - 7:17pmI'm only Chelsey
Simple and plain
I've got nothing to lose
I'm afraid to gain
He's just him
Athletic, smart, tall
There's no reason to tell him
He doesn't want me at all
I always have this dilemma
I'm confused every day
I've thought and I've thought
There just isn't a way
He's happy not knowing
Just glance at his face
No ties left here
He's out of this place
The biker, the goalie
He's gone for good
I'll just keep my mouth shut
I know that I should
"Nothing" isn't "something"
Like the occasional smile
He doesn't want you at all
You're off by a mile
I'll be quiet a bit longer
Till it's over and done
I'm leaving like I came
Lonely, just one.
No Last Words
Submitted by pepper_tree on Sun, 06/22/2008 - 7:02pmHe's leaving now
Without a second glance
How could he know
She never gave "them" a chance
Of course she wanted to
And almost did
He didn't care, couldn't
Who was she trying to kid?
She's resigning herself
Letting him walk away
She wants to be held
But he can't stay
She hates herself for it
Already has regret
No turning back, though
The date has been set
It's just like last time
Minus harsh words
And he did nothing to hurt her
Just flew with the birds
He's finally free now
From what, she can't tell
She wants him with her
He never broke the spell.
Reason Why I Love You
Submitted by offreadin on Sun, 06/22/2008 - 7:01pmGirl:
I'm sorry you caught me in my
"Saturday Finery"
Sweaty Mickey Mouse T-shirt
My brother's old, holey, shorts
And my purple dyed shoes
But the way you looked at me
I felt like I was wearing
Gucci
Dior
or
Prada
Boy:
I caught you early Saturday
and you looked embarassed
by what you were wearing
I don't know why
You look as gorgeous as you always do.
Independence
Submitted by pepper_tree on Sun, 06/22/2008 - 6:54pmI'm a strange child
Simply weird at best
Thinking other thoughts
Different than the rest
My thoughts are not new
Someone has to know
Countries fall apart
Like the melting of snow
Popularity's an issue
I hate it a lot
"Hot" clothes important
Your trust being bought
"We are just numbers
Someone to use
Look at graphs, figures
You know it's abused."
Yeah, I'm cynical
I don't mind one bit
Something's going on
We've got to stop it.

iv. "OH NO! MY ARM IS PURPLE!! wait. thats just marker."

vi. "Obviously. It's pouring outside. No one's going to come in here. Lets just strip!"
vii. "I LOVE your BRA!"
viii. "It's ok. We're sisters."
ix. "you're inside my protective circle."
x. "My name is Sara Campbell, but you can call me Sara."
xi. "Why do we have to stay out of the road?"
(to which I replied, "because I love you too much" and proceeded to make her into an airplane."
Together
Submitted by Poet_Jessica on Sun, 06/22/2008 - 3:37pmI wish this were simple.
I wish that a few words could fix this.
But this would be too hard to say.
I wish that there was a way.
The waves are crashing all around us,
And we can't get out.
But I'll stay with you,
You know it's true.
I wish this were simple.
I wish that we could get out.
Together maybe we can make it,
Unless the ocean takes it.
The days are getting short now,
And the nights are getting long.
I really wish that we knew how,
I wish we belonged

I Cried Myself Out
Submitted by Poet_Jessica on Sun, 06/22/2008 - 2:59pmI think that a night of sleepless rest,
Was all it took,
For me to cry myself out,
Because today,
There is no pain.
I'm a little numb,
But it will pass.
I think that now I'm actually happy for you.
You deserve nothing more than her.
Granted that's not much,
She's not that great.
But last night
I surprised myself,
By being so vulnerable,
So emotional.
I only stopped crying to write a few poems.
Which didn't surprise me at all.
That's my life these days;
I write about you a lot.
But now I'm listening to Imagine by John Lennon.
It helps the numb.
That song speaks past the lyrics,
The melody whispers to me.
"You may say I'm a dreamer,
But I'm not the only one."
Even though I sometimes feel like it.
But I am still surviving,
And that is sometimes more than I deserve.

Four Little Birds
Submitted by NeonKiwi on Sun, 06/22/2008 - 12:11pmSometimes I can still hear
the chirping and
the screeching
of those four little birds.
They won't leave me alone.
I feel like screaming
at them.
And still they
scold away.
"What do you want
from me?" I
cry out
to them.
"You killed us,"
they say in response.
Their voices are
laced
with ice,
melting with
pure...
Hatred?
"You - you're supposed
to be dead..."
I choke out.
"We are dead.
You killed us,"
those four
little birds say to me.
How did their voices
gain such a
haunting
quality?
"No... No.
I didn't kill you!"
I scream,
hysterical.
"Yes you did.
You killed us."
They won't leave me alone.
"No! I didn't kill you!"
I sob. "You're supposed
to be dead!"
"We are dead. Because
you killed us. Don't you
understand?
You killed us."
They swoop down on me.
"No... I didn't
kill you... Please,
I didn't, I didn't,
I didn't!" I scream.
They won't leave me alone.
