Roads & Rails

Sometimes,

they think the forests must have been constructed,

around the railroad.

That the tracks were built up from Earth long ago,

in some far-off time,

before their time.

Really,

the highway stretches above the once-extended roots,

of ancient trees that scraped the sky.

But what of that?

Was in some far-off time,

before their time.

When,

to bring their pride in noise and pollution,

they first had to shatter the very mountains,

the very mountains that allowed them to rise above

To see what was once forest break, burn, and blister.

No wonder they crumbled them down,

unable to bear witness to the devastating design

of our creation.
