Then I Blinked

When I opened my eyes, I saw that my body was no longer mine, but the body of a tree. Not really a tree, but a body made of wood and bark, with leaves draped over my head like hair.  I was like a tree person.  A person made of wood instead of flesh.   Looking out of carved wood for eyes, feeling with wooden fingers.  I was like a puppet with no string .  Skin made of bark, with hair of willow leaves.  As I looked closer at the other creatures, I saw unicorns, centaurs, dragons, elves, dwarves, and gnomes as well as humans. Thinking all this time in this place that it was a dream and not really there at all. This is not a real place. I am not there nor am I able to be there, but I can touch things.  Then I blinked and I was gone from that beautiful place of wonder. Now I am back to where I was before––a dreary middle school classroom. But now when I look up, it is not so dreary.
