Every Night

Again, again and again

A light shines in my face

My eyes burn and I’m forced to squint

Something touches my shoulder

I shiver and start to run

Run, run and run

It touches my shoulder again

The same shiver

But I can’t move

I can’t scream

I wake

Again, again and again

A light shines in my face

My eyes burn and I’m forced to squint

Something touches my shoulder

I shiver and start to run

Run, run and run

It touches my shoulder again

The same shiver

But I can’t move

I can’t scream

I wake

  • Senses

    Smack, smack, chew, smack smack
Stop chewing so we can hear
    Nobody likes it

    Squishy, wet, gross socks
I should have put on my shoes
    I thought the grass dried

    I hate wet shirt sleeves
    I change immediately
  • Mornings

Every morning started the same way.

The same sound of my mom’s voice acting as an alarm clock.

“Did I finish the cereal yesterday?” I wondered as I got ready.
