Tree Thoughts

Tree Thoughts

Trees, we need them. I wouldn’t say that most people love trees, they’re just kind of there, I guess. It’s like grass, nobody hates it or anything, it just exists. Trees are more important than grass though, by a longshot. They do a much better job of sucking in CO2 and supply us with more materials. I (like most people) think trees are pretty great, I love climbing them and picking their fruit, or draining syrup from them in the winter. Climbing a tree is kinda scary though because you never know what branch is going to break or what little critter is going to emerge and bite your finger.
I have a lot of 'tree' experiences/memories for some reason. We have a maple tree in our front yard that we sometimes tap to make maple syrup. We had a maple tree in our backyard too, but my parents had it cut down so we could have more room there. I was not happy about it and sat on the stump after the lumber people had left and cried. My favorite thing to do back then was climb trees so it shook me up a little. I think that was around the time that my dad built a ladder so I could climb the tree in our front yard more easily. My friends and I loved climbing it and we even rigged a pulley so we could bring snacks up there. This one time while I was climbing the tree, a wasp stung my hand and I thought I was going to fall off, luckily, I didn’t. It was still pretty traumatizing though.
One of my favorite camp counselors of all time ate trees, it sounds strange but let me explain. She’s the type of person to do the exact opposite of what you say, and if you dare her too, she will do almost anything. She ate a lot of inedible stuff all the time, and she came up with a challenge to ‘sample’ every tree she could get her hands on to find the best tasting one. It’s comically funny, and she is the weirdest, smartest, most sleep-deprived hilarious counselor I have ever had.
I’ve started to get side-tracked but the point of this is to show how important trees are, they help make fun memories and supply you with (almost) everything you could need! They turn CO2 into oxygen, they feed us fruit, keep global warming down and so much more! We need trees to survive and sadly not many people seem to care, especially with forest fires and the overconsumption of wood; trees are dwindling and the time is now if we want to save this planet.
