Patriotic Blood

NOTE: I bumped into this and was reminded by how good it is/was -- written by a student in 7th grade at the time. Her username is Imagine. -- gg

I pledge allegiance to the flag
Running to the beat of your heart almost silently through the never-ending woods. Branches tear your face. Roots trip your feet, but they are nothing. Only one thought is fixed in your mind.
of the United States of America
The weight of a gun rides in your hand, daring you to shoot it, to break the silence of the forest; the forest of Hell. No birds sing their songs of daybreak, for there are no birds left to sing.
and to the republic for which it stands,
A twig snaps sending a sharp crack through the forest, and a mask of fear in front of your eyes. You know that it was not you who transformed the gloom of the woods into a death sentence. You slowly crouch down to the forest floor, so close to the Earth that you can smell the life beneath you.
one nation under God,
When you were a boy never did the idea occur to you that someday you would fight in war. That you would kill your brothers and sisters in war.
indivisible, with liberty and justice
As if in a dream, you sense the man hovering above you. A nightmare that can kill, so that you will never wake up ever ever again. Before your feet touch the ground you feel a sharp jab of shock ricocheting down the back of your head. Blackness closes in as blood pours out of your once perfect body. And all is lost.
for all.

This literally gave me

This literally gave me shivers after reading it. Beautiful. And yet terrible. So true to war and life, both of which are hard to face, not to mention write about and have it turn out how you wanted it too. I love it.
