Winter in the Forest

The wind whistles through the trees as I step over logs and branches
Delicately stomping over poison ivy and fallen leaves
I walk
And the trees follow my footsteps
Branches shaking
Trunks shifting
The old gray and brown colors swirl together
And I am now following their roots steps
I clamber over some rocks covered in lime green moss
Suddenly
Somehow
I am flying
No
Not flying but floating
And my trunk shifts
And my branches heavily ache as they shake and shiver
And my old gray and brown colors swirl together
With the other trees
And I look down
Realizing
Somebody has chopped down my friends
Oh no!
Now they are coming
Coming for me!
As I sway and shiver and fall
I glance across a road
When was a road built?
And next to the road I see houses
When were houses built?
And see data centers
When were data centers built?
And realize
They will build something here
And that something will not be new trees
I realize now
That my forest has disappeared
And my hundreds of years of life
Have come to an end

For what?

More like tangling in my long hair
Little blue beads surrounding the rim
Encasing the empty tire like a fountain

  • Why?

I witness injustices often now. How come when we learned about the thirteenth ammendment they just "forgot" to mention how it turned the prison system into slavery?
