Water
I feel like a
stranger in my
own home.
Suddenly I don't
know these people any
longer. They make me
laugh, make me
angry when they hold up the
pictures in which we
look like we're happy.
They're just a child's game;
just make-believe.
Secretly and without any
outsider's knowledge, they blame our
failings on me.
I can see it in their eyes,
I can hear it in their tones and
feel it in their side-long glances.
They're not as
stupid as they seem, not as
ignorant or
oblivious as they'd like to
think. These ties, the
blood some of us
share isn't thick enough anymore,
isn't strong enough to
hold us together. Not when it's been
watered down the way it has by this
large yet still unfamiliar presence.
