New Poem
I Died for Beauty
By: Emily Dickinson
I died for beauty, but was scarce
Adjusted in the tomb,
When one who died for truth was lain
In an adjoining room.
He questioned softly why I failed?
"For beauty," I replied.
"And I for truth,--the two are one;
We brethren are," he said.
And so, as kinsmen met a night,
We talked between the rooms.
Until the moss had reached our lips,
And covered up our names.
Let's try this poem first...
beuaty
I liked this poem cause it is like the conterversy with models. Most models (in general) are really skinny. this poem shows how emily dickison put herself through much to be beutifull... chinese people ,back in time, used to bind there feet so they would be considered beutifull, people in africa toed rings to there eard until they drooped to show butiness, it just goes to show u that in certain cultures people will go through anything to be in a high social class or beutiful
The Smell of Woodsmoke
Twisting spiral
The tailfeather of a sparrow
Fluttering back to the nest of nothingness.
You smell of home.
You wisp of fire, charge my heart
To twitter.
The embers, emblazoned with a dream.
Their passion gives way to
Woodsmoke, and bitter ash.
The way back is a trackless path.
With disappearing entanglements,
The smell of woodsmoke,
The smell of home.
Might I, someday, with the embers
Burning low,
Drift off, a quivering spell, a dance,
A gray sigh, and smell woodsmoke
Once again.
The way home,
A fluttering trail I once did know.
And remember...
"To renounce Nirvana, for love of others, is to find Nirvana in its real meaning."
Thanks for the poem!
Thanks for the poem tim c... i think in general this poem means more that when looked at more than once... When i thought of this poem first i thought of a bird, flying back home. but then i stumbled about the part of nirvana. When i looked up nirvana in wikipedia, i came up with these results....
It( nirvana) is a mode of being that is free from mind-contaminants (Kilesa) such as lust, anger or craving. It is thus a state where all passions and emotions are stilled – the end of suffering, or Dukkha. The Buddha in the Dhammapada says of Nirv??a that it is "the highest happiness". This is not the sense-based happiness of everyday life, nor the concept of happiness as interpreted by Western culture, but rather an enduring, transcendental happiness integral to the calmness attained through enlightenment.
The Buddha describes the abiding in Nirv??a as 'deathlessness' (Pali: amata or amaravati) or 'the unconditioned' and as the highest spiritual attainment, the natural result that accrues to one who lives a life of virtuous conduct in accordance with Dharma. Such a life (called Brahmacarya in India) dissolves the causes for future becoming (Skt, Karma; Pali, Kamma) that otherwise keep beings forever wandering through realms of desire and form, the samsara.
This totally crashed my theroy of a bird... what do you think?
Mina
Nirvana
Thank you very much for your feedback. I'm glad you thought of a bird flying back to it's home, it IS one of the central images I tried to get across, so your theory is in no way debunked. Also, the quote concerning nirvana was merely a quote...designed to simply get people thinking.
However, there is a connection between Nirvana and the poem, the trailing wisp of woodsmoke. At least I hope it is apparent when it is read.
Thank you very much!
Thank you
I kind of lost myself in your poem for a bit. It is really good.
P.S. Post this on the blog if you haven't already.

Summer Vacation
This is one of my poems. I'm not that good at poems so yeah... please help me revise.
School's out!
Summer vacation
is on the loose.
Let's rock and roll.
And dance
till our hearts desire.
No more math
or science
or social studies.
Just frolic and fun.
Report cards...
who cares?
Forts and computers...
TV and biking.
Just time to relax
I just want
to play.
And make sure
I don't waste it.
Yeeeeeeeaaahhhh!

I really want to get one and learn. I like what you can do with an accustic.
