Insurrections

Note: this poem is NOT about what happened at the Capitol on January 6th. I'm a very liberal writer, and what happened there is not what I'm talking about in this poem. This poem is meant to show the power of liberal writing against authoritarian and faschist regimes.

I create insurrections.
I create revolutions, I create rebellions, I create unrest.

According to the government, I create problems.
According to the government, I create cracks in the already fragile system.
According to the government, I create threats.
According to the government, I create criminals that need to be stopped.

I create insurrections.
I create chaos, I create insanity, I create instability.

According to my family, I’m completely crazy.
According to my family, I’m just that weird kid who sits in their room and writes all day.
According to my family, I’m not at all sane.
According to my family, I need a therapist—and quick.

I create insurrections.
I create anger, I create fear, I create danger.

According to the people, I am a terror.
According to the people, I force eyes open without their desire to see.
According to the people, I am a danger to myself and others.
According to the people, I force ears to hear without care of the fear when they hear the screams.

I create insurrections.
I create words, I create sentences, I create ideas.

According to myself, there’s nothing wrong with me.
According to myself, I’m the only seeing one here, and the rest of you are blind.
According to myself, there’s nothing dangerous about me.
According to myself, I’m just the writer—it’s your choice what you do with my words.

I create insurrections.
I create love, I create hate, I create every emotion you can feel.

I create poetry.

    Bandaids for Bad Dreams

I wish there were bandaids for all the cuts on my arm,
but there’s no bandaids, because I can’t tell anybody
    that I’m bleeding.

I wish there were bandaids for all my scars,

    Villain

I tried to say hi to a girl yesterday
Can you tell me why she was so afraid?
    I know I’m fine—not disfigured or two-faced
I promise you guys that I’m perfectly sane.
My teachers don’t seem to think I’m all there
  • Enough

    Isn’t it enough?

    Isn’t it enough for you
That there have been 102 mass shootings
    In the past year?

    Isn’t it enough for you
That most of them have been hate crimes
    And have gone unpunished?
