“How about we have ice cream while we wait?” Natalie said, we had been waiting for our mom’s new car to arrive at the dealership for hours, and we were the only customers left except for an old man sitting across from us with his dog. It was about about 7 o’clock at night and Mom was already sleeping in her chair so I shook her awake.
“ It’s ready.” muttered a lowish voice. A young man was standing in the doorway, looking cheery in a sleepy-ish sort of way. One we got outside, the man said to wait while he got her car.
“ You know, the car actually matches the sunset.” Mom said. Her car had to be blue, or green, those were the colors I saw in the sunset. We heard a distant, car engine start, and in an instant, a greenish blue car came rolling toward us. I wasn’t a fan of turquoise, so I asked mom why she got a turquoise car.
If I couldn’t see a color it would have to be pink. The reason that I picked the color pink is because I do not like the color pink. People say if you are a girl you like pink, and that’s a lie; not all girls like pink. I feel bad for the girls that grow up thinking if they are a girl they have to like and wear the color pink. Also when there is a special event, they expect you to wear pink if you are a girl. Pink this and pink that. I say no thank you. I do not like the color pink! I bet I have said that a thousand times. Pink T-shirts and pink dresses and pants would all be gray. All the animals that are pink would be brown because that is a more natural color and anything hand made that is pink would be gray. If you are a girl or a boy you can like and wear pink. I like to wear dark colors and I’m going to be myself.
So I know it's late... but I just joined YW and I wanted to answer this prompt... Enjoy!
Question: If you had to choose one color to stop seeing, what would you choose?
I first want to think about this question: "if you couldn't see one specific color, what color would it be replaced with?" This question means, if you couldn't see red would you see purple instead? Or green? If you think about it, it would probably be replaced with white, because white is a the filler color. White is blankness.
If I had to choose a color to not see, it would be white, because it would probably be replaced with white, so I wouldn't be missing anything.
But the thing is, is white even a color? What determines a color?
The definition of color is, "the property possessed by an object of producing different sensations on the eye as a result of the way the object reflects or emits light."
Black is a dark, mysterious color that sucks you in like a great black hole into the dark past of human history. Why is it that a single color, can make us turn chaotic or make us have so much fear? Black is a color that has made me feel many emotions that associate with grief and pain. When I think of black, I feel empty, I feel fearful, I feel sadness, I feel lost, and worst of all I feel blinded. Black awakens my darkest thoughts that my soul tries so hard to forget, it awakens my deepest nightmares and overflows me with scary visions. The color black is so blinding that you forget what shapes are and feel like you are in an endless cycle of…..nothing. Just pitch black.
If I had to give up seeing one color, I would give up seeing red. My reasoning for this is that out of the most beautiful things in life, almost none of them are red. The sunrise is orange, the grass is green, the sky is blue, the soil on which we walk is brown, and the night sky full of the stars we much enjoy gazing at is black.
This is not to say that nothing beautiful is red however, but the other color’s tremendous beauty outweighs red’s sometimes negative implications. For example, the color our faces turn when we are experiencing a negative emotion is red, and probably most prevalent, the color red is commonly seen as representative of aggression. This is not only a cultural implication, as it is seen in human psychology specifically dating back to our earliest ancestors.
There are thousands of different colors. Each has its own meaning: Yellow, like the happiness of a new, sunny day. Green, as in nature and jealousy. Purple, has the ability to stand out in a field of green weeds. Blue, because it’s everyone's favorite color! Red, it makes life just a little bit more interesting. Black, especially black, it represents what no other color can. Gray, because it goes with everything and isn’t just between the lines. Orange, well this is the one color that catches anyone’s eye, yet it brings added attention to itself, as if you didn’t already see it. Yes, it’s part of the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Yes, it’s the color of fire, warnings, and beautiful things. But there is just something about the color orange that I would just never miss.
BLACK! Not a fan. We need color! Purple! Blue! Yellow! Black is the color of SIN! I say colors for all! Nothing black and sad. Nothing dark and weary. Make it pop with colors! Make us happy and make us smile when we see tie-dyed shirts! When we laugh, we're laughing at the colorful rainbow! We frown when we see black. At night we cringe. Why can't darkness be green? Or yellow? Maybe pink? We need color!
Put colorful cases on those boring, black computers! Turn the TV on instead of seeing the blank, black screen! Colors make us happy. They can express our feelings! That's why if I could give up a color, i'd give up black.
