blue

blue is that perfect summer day
you know the one with warm sun and a slight breeze
blue is the ocean, pulling and pushing at the shore,
tempting you to jump in and get carried away from all your problems
blue is the color of mountains
and well loved jeans
blue is a rainy july day
with quiet thunder
blue is my paint
Brushed with gentle stokes onto a waiting canvas
Blue is feeling lonely
On a sunny day
Blue is the color of a cracked plastic cup
Still siting on the counter
After saying you would pick it up three times
Blue is intentionally getting lost in all the back roads and forests
It's your first memory of swimming
Kicking and pulling your way through the water
Blue is the night sky from my roof
Lit by the rising moon.

  • The Boxes In The Corner

    Looming over your shoulders

Each stack higher than its former

    Every thought and every scrap

Of an idea too scared to ponder

    Every moment that hurt

    Each minute that lingered longer

  • Inadequacy

How do I push the words out
    From behind my taffy tongue
    Thick with salty tears
    And full of grubby thumb

    I’m a child
    Pretending that I’m numb
    To escape the overwhelming feelings

  • Paper Frogs

    Why

When feet fall soft but quick

    Does the hallway extend

And the hot breath of whoever’s behind me feel hotter

Why do I stay pressed to the wall

    Like a stubborn gruby sticker
