Flake

Flurries feather down, illuminated only
When they fall past the light
Of the fluorescent streetlamp,
Glistening on the street below.

Melting as they kiss pavement,
Flakes create a gray sheen
Over the earth, imprinted with
The memories of your footfalls.

Does the snow exist above the streetlight,
Where none can behold it?
Or does it come into being when seen,
Existing only when tangible?

The solipsistic nature of snow
In darkness, known only when trapped
In the block of knowledge
Between fluorescent sun and earth

It lives when lighted upon,
Shines in the mind for mere moments,
And dies touching the temporary slush
Of previously pondered snowflakes.

  • Back window

The quiet potential of the vehicle slept
Through a freeing darkness of misty rain
Down the windows the silver droplets crept
The shine of the water could certainly stain

The rain covers like shadows, thick as honey
  • Mother

    The word encompasses all
Nature caring for her fragile children
A writer carefully crafting words she has written
A gardener nurturing plants she’s been given
Guiding a van down a road constantly driven

  • Summer Teeth

Maybe the spring flowers haven’t yet bloomed
But the world smiles on you with its crooked teeth
The forming years of your life entombed
Changed winds whistle by as the earth does breathe
