Three men with straw hats
work with the Earth
turning the dirt.
Tall, giant stalks of ripe corn
reach towards the fading sky.
An arm reaches up and wipes sweat
off the glowing tanned face.
As the firey keeper of day
slowly eases away from the farm,
old wooden shovels plunge into the soil.
Dirt-stained hands holding the smooth wooden handle, worn down from years of digging.
A young boy runs through the fields,
leaving little prints in the soft ground.
Finally arisen is the
pale, white goddess,
whose phases direct the farmer’s ways.
