Bug

Contrary to popular belief, I’m not a bug, at least, not a common pest like moths or ladybugs, or god forbid spiders. I’m graceful, or as graceful as your children’s book describes me, and I have class. (Again, it really depends on your interpretation of butterflies, but I think we’re pretty dignified creatures) Thanks to our majestic wings, and love for flowers and all thing pollinated, without the risk of harming anyone, we’re automatically the more popular pollinators. Bees could never. If they weren’t making honey, then I’m sure the humans would have already murdered them into extinction, and not try to “save the bees”. To me? Good riddance! Now I don’t have to fight for extra flowers or what not. Bees are awfully territorial, and for what? Honestly, it’s quite annoying just to drink nectar from select flowers, then try to sneak some “claimed” flowers when you think they’re not looking.

The one godsend is that bees will go anywhere for flowers, and I mean anywhere. I don’t go to human flowers anymore, simply because humans are disgusting, annoying creatures, who don’t understand, nor appreciate what we do for their kind. They try to catch us in insipid butterfly nets, and some really crazy ones dry us out and pin us to boards like some sort of kindergarten arts and crafts project! And, please, don’t even get me started on the butterflies that grew up in elementary school classrooms. They’re so full of it, like the fact they spent their first 2 cycles of their life in a sweaty, grimy classroom, in a 2x10 enclosed cylinder with poorly placed sticks everywhere is something to be proud of. Pish posh, I say. I only know this stuff because as a youngling, I enjoyed traveling and sightseeing. I just happened to cross an elementary school with this sort of gimmick, and fascinated horror, I kept coming back to keep an eye on those poor butterflies. Not so poor anymore though, with how righteous and annoying they act.

And don’t even get me started on those monarch butterflies. Seriously, just because they're the bigshots of the butterfly community, does not mean they get to shove us around like common mules. We live here too! They act like there’s some sort of hierarchy, like whoever’s the most popular or the prettiest gets everything, and ignore the fact that we basically all have the same functions. Honestly. The nerve of winged insects these days.

Nevertheless, somehow, I still live. I think it’s mainly due to my impeccable survival skills, rather than pure luck, I don’t believe in luck anyways, so I’m pretty much out of the woods. All I need to do is just stay out of trouble now, and I’ll be fine and dandy, until I fall from the sky dead, but that’s a problem for another time.
