Snowflake
By Gretchen Tarrant
Mater Christi School, Grade 8
Swirling, twirling gently down
I hope it never hits the ground
Snowflakes represent to me
A different faith entirely
Falling from thousands of feet above
Gliding safely to my glove
It’s a glorious journey to make
But to survive it's willing to make mistakes
It has to grow just right
So it won’t get lost in the night
Somehow it still floats softly down
Earth, it seems to say, should do us proud
‘cause even though the snowflake has been above
Once it is here
It’s content in my glove
Here
It’s not the snow or the tree
That makes it truly Christmas to me
It’s the feeling that we get inside
That starts with Thanksgiving and stops trying to hide
Its all the family decorating the tree
The kids desperately trying to see
What’s inside the presents and stealing the pie
Not caring if the goose is too fried
Grandma finally coming home
Deer outside beginning to roam
This to me is Christmas cheer
‘cause I know
Its all right here
The Bay
It’s cold outside but i don’t care
I tie my laces tightly with care
I can’t wait to get outside
When I’m on the lake the world is mine
Step step glide
Dive slip slide
Off with a whoosh the wind biting my face
Flying past ice-fishermen and trying to embrace
The full beauty of what I see
Snowflakes building up drifts entirely
Learning by heart the frozen windswept lake
Wishing that I can partake
In this glorious, sparkling white world
So big
So perfect

Wow this is awesome i love
Wow this is awesome i love the rhyming scheme. This is so creative because i love snow and winter. You also have a really good reading voice.
This piece is really
This piece is really creative and well put together. Your rhyming scheme is fluent and easy to read. I like the way you describe the snow flakes falling to the ground. It makes me appreciate winter a lot more after reading your poem. I also like it when you speak about Thanksgiving and Christmas and how much we have to appreciate those holidays.
