poem 6 comments challenge: Dear America
Abriatis

Dear America

Dear America,
You are a beautiful place.
Filled with love and happiness
But also hate and sorrow.

From the highest reaches of Congress
To the slums of Chicago
Every facet of life
is shown somewhere in our lands.

The pride felt in all is different
But we are all the same
Regardless of sex, creed, or race
And anything in between.

Being an American
does not entitle us to be 'better'
Than any other
And it never will.

Dear America,
I love you so
I just wish we all were
honest and kind.

Abriatis, I'm so happy you found Young Writers Project! Your words are so welcome here! I especially love your last wish for America. Me, too, Abriatis! Well said. And thanks for taking some time on the 4th of July to write a letter to America, this fantastic, flawed place!

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I felt I owed this place some words, whether they be scathing or sugar-coated. They came out honest and truthful, and I'm glad they did. I feel very at home in YWP and hope to keep posting over the summer. Thank you for your encouragement!

It is so relieving to me that I am not alone in my love/hate relationship with the country. So many times I see myself staring eye to eye with all the horrifying, disgusting acts of this world. And even as sorrowful it is, this poem helps remind me that there is good. And even if there is not, there is hope for it in the future. Thank you

No one is ever alone, and I agree with you about the disgusting acts of the world. We just have to turn towards the good but cannot forget the bad. Thank /you/.

Thank you! It's a selfish poem but I'm glad you enjoyed it.
