Love to write

Jellyfish

28AA8D16-4163-4889-BB77-CFA89AC90DDE.jpeg

He looked at you
with those eyes again.

The ones that beg you to hold him.

And you would
if you weren't afraid of his lightning.

He reminds you of the jellyfish
you found last summer.

It was small
and beautiful
and was everything
that a lonely ocean girl longs for.

You love him.
You did when you met him, when he smiled at you.
And all you want to do is hold him.

But sometimes jellyfish sting
and sometimes you miss them too.

Such an interesting close-up! I don't think I've ever seen a jellyfish in person, let alone held one, so this was really interesting for me. Where did you find it/where was the picture taken?

I found it in Chatham, MA and supposedly it was non-stinging so I held it. There were a lot along the beach where I was. I’m so glad you found it interesting!

Gorgeous. I feel like this could inspire a lot of really cool pieces of writing. Any chance you could write something based off of this?
    Some parts I found interesting:
-The almost vermillion center: it looks like a miniature sun, or blood, or a blossom.
-The texture. So unfamiliar and delicate and alien. And squishy.
-The fact that it's non-stinging. (The metaphors are endless for things that seem dangerous but aren't, hidden beauty, stereotypes/judgements, kindness, friendship, etc.)
-The fact that it's so close to the ocean, where it can live, but unable to get there
-How it's hard to tell whether it's dead or alive.
-How it's surrounded by a bunch of other dead/dying members of its species.
-Why the person chose to pick it up. Examining natural beauty? Loneliness? Childhood memories? Reminds them of something important?

    Hi, thank you.

I have been thinking about this comment for a couple of days now and debating with myself if I wanted to write a poem to go along with this photograph.

When I'm at the ocean I feel so alive and this moment and the ones that followed it were something I wasn't sure I wanted to share because it was so me...

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm glad I wrote!

I'm glad you decided to write a poem to go along with it. It's a gorgeous piece and the two mediums really add to each other. It's also a good reminder of how we can derive writing inspiration from anywhere, anytime--not just when we're sitting down at a laptop staring at a blank page.
