Twist

The minute I opened my eyes something felt off,
Astray,
Or maybe even a little twisted.
The clever smiles brought from my parents seemed fake,
And unreal,
Even my classmates,
Who looked a little too happy to see we had a quiz today.
As the day went on the lights didn’t dim at all,
At some point I felt snow quietly brush my eyelashes,
With the faint sound of a merry go round whisper in my ears.
Every once and a while there was a,

Click,

Click,

Click,

As if something was about to happen,
And none of us knew about it yet.
When I said goodnight to my family,
Climbed the stairs to my bed,
The world shattered and everything went blank,
Our world had completely turned upside down,
It was as if everything was broken completely.

Crackling glass,
Fake snow flying every which way,
And the Merry go round sound no longer played constantly.
My favorite snowglobe was broken,
The clever smiles of the small people seemed off,
Unreal,
And maybe a little twisted.
