YWP Poetry Slam Stream
We had a wonderful Slam in early May -- thanks to everyone who participated, both here and online! You can watch the video of the event below left, and review the live chat (now closed) below right.
Tell us what you think! Add your thoughts in the comments. Anything and everything -- from the content to the technology!
Note: We now have a full, unedited stream available here.
A selection of shorter clips, one slam piece each, can be found here.
Enjoy!

Thanks Slammers...Check out this video
UPDATE: We are not happy with the video as you see it. We are a) looking for a new service and b) plan to make a DVD of this from the tape we took for anyone who wants it. We'll advise when it's ready. -- gg
I want to thank everyone who participated in Tuesday night's slam. It was absolutely incredible poetry and performance art. Really. Geof Hewitt, who ran the slam and has led many slams said this was the best, bar none, in terms of quality. He was amazed. So were we.
We think the live stream seemed to work well. We kind of low-keyed it but it looks like there were at least 6 or 7 of you who actively participated in the chat and we hope many of you also watched it or are watching it now. Many thanks to Eva, Grady and James Valastro, a professional videographer, who helped set this up and make it happen. We learned a lot and it is clear we will do this many more times in the future.
Please, please watch some or all of the video. We realize the quality is not the best and we do have it on high quality tape and will make it available (once we learn how to do that) but you will see and hear some incredible poems. We also recorded sound and will post the sound with the text once the slammers post it.
This was a great start to what we think will become a regular feature at YWP -- live events that are streamed and recorded for those who want to view it later. We will have more slams, readings, author nights, workshops and performances in the months ahead.
Thanks to all our slammers -- Katie, Baily, Newton, Camille, Liz, Anna, Bridget and Geof Hewitt (the m.c.) Thanks to judgesL: Jen, Jackson, Cassidy, Erin and Kennah.
Thanks to Lee for help all over and to Douglas who helped haul the non-denominational pew from down the hall.
Please tell us what you think below. Silence is NOT golden.

Indeed, the video quality
Indeed, the video quality wasn't the greatest and the feed pooped out on me 28 minutes in, but it was a great slam and a great way to get it out there.
Personally, I can't wait to see what's next.
Geist -- more info please!
Geist -- more info please! This is great feedback -- exactly the kind of stuff we want to hear.
Did it stop only during the live event? Have you tried to play the recorded video? I have not yet had a chance to sit down and watch the whole video to see how it plays back...I'm hoping it's a little better than the live stream? How was the sound for you?
And quality-wise: What do we need to be aware of? Was it fuzzy (how fuzzy?), chunky, jerky, etc. (Yes, I know, very technical terms...;)? Did the sound and the image sync? When the feed dropped, what did you have to do to get it back, or did it come back on its own? What kind of connection do you have (we heard streaming over satellite was almost impossible)?

It was the recorded version,
It was the recorded version, and I think it was a problem on my side of the connection. The sound was crystal clear, though, it's just that my browser just decided to quit on me, I think.
Thus is the nature of Beta software.
Yes indeed -- I'm going to
Yes indeed -- I'm going to be looking around at other streaming options so maybe we can find a way to keep that from happening. But anything you notice (or if you know of software to try) is great. We expect to be doing much, much more of this in the future.

I almost wish I wasn't there
I almost wish I wasn't there and could watch it from home and comment, but being there was even better, so I don't. This was a great idea... having the slam in the first place and having the live stream. I watched it again on the video when I got home. We should have another one sometime.

It may take a minute for the video to show up on the left side. If the browser has stopped loading and you still can't see the video, you might need to refresh the page. The video is still posted. Let us know what you have tried to do so far and we can offer more specific help.

So it looks like when we
So it looks like when we switched out tapes (to make sure we could get a high quality recording in addition to our stream), we should have stopped the broadcast and started a separate piece. Apologies to those of you who haven't been able to see beyond Baily's second piece! I will see what I can do here at the office (probably early next week, as I'm out tomorrow and tied up Friday) to get a better version up for you all!

So due to tech moodiness I
So due to tech moodiness I couldn't see who won. But wow, I was supposed to be studying for a math test, but I couldn't pause this, amazing! Camille, Anna, Liz, Baily, Newton, were all amazing.

Haha I probably should have said audio recording... EE was holding a recorder the whole time and recordifying it.
Of course, included in there is our lively conversation about how to turn it off, and if it was actually working (it was ;) )

Yeah, what happened to that?
Yeah, what happened to that? That would be interesting to listen to. Maybe it could be put up as a podcast? (Even though it's like an hour and a half long and has several conversations included.)

Ceurich--
It's still up. Sounds like there might be a flash issue here? If you haven't updated to version 9, try that first. If you're still having trouble, shoot me an email (edevries@youngwritersproject.com) and tell me more about what you're seeing (or not seeing).
