Mivel Mischief

A mivel, a strange creature that looks like a cross between a smallish monkey and a large mouse, had sneaked into the library. No one knew it was there yet, but it was about to accomplish its mission, a feat that was sure to draw attention. It had found a secluded corner with several computers and quickly found a recording program. Taking a chance, the mivel produced a screechy wail. A nearby librarian heard the sound and walked over to investigate. The mivel quickly set the computer to repeat and played the sound it had recorded. A horrible, high-pitched screeching ripped through the silent library, disturbing all the people reading books in squishy armchairs. The librarian ran over to the computer and tried to shut off the sound but the mivel had disconnected the mouse so that the librarian couldn't click on the pause button. The mivel itself was nowhere to be seen.

The librarian hit the power button, canceling the sound, and started searching around for the perpetrator. The mivel was hiding behind a book that was on display, quietly avoiding the librarian. It had to hold very still in order to remain undetected, so it had to wait a few seconds for the librarian to turn in a different direction before it could zip away. The mivel ran along the top of a bookshelf and made a flying leap to the ground. As it reached the ground, however, it made a soft thump and the librarian ran toward the sound. The mivel dove under a wheeled book cart. The librarian quickly scanned the library and then started searching likely hiding spots. As soon as he went to look behind the first bookshelf the mivel made a run for it, sprinting down the stairs to hide behind a potted plant. When the next person entered or left the library, it would bolt out the door and proceed on to its next mischief-making mission. The mivel had successfully avoided capture.

Note: I have nothing against libraries, in fact I love them, a library just provided the best setting for my story.
