The Perfect Storm
The cellist is rocking back
and forth
a tiny fishing boat
tossed
and lost
amidst the waves
The musicians
smash
into chords with their entire bodies
again-
and again-
throwing themselves
so completely into
this music, this storm
Everything is
lost.
And suddenly-
they are the eye of
the hurricane
a strangely still
sky
a single foghorn
in the dark of
night,
allowing us to-
and hope-
and hope-
We breathe in and hold it.
It is too late.
They are gone.

The music fits so
The music fits so unbelievably well to the writing. I love the subject of this, because I love to sail. I made a connection with this, and I loved it. Perfect piece. Thanks for writing it :)
People say if you look down, you will fall, but if you look up, will you fly?
Proving no writing is truly over...
I saw this comment on a piece written this summer as part of YWP's partnership with Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival -- 10 or so of you folks went into the festival, met with the musicians, attended rehearsals, went to the concerts and wrote. They wrote whatever. So the fact that this comment compliments you on how well the music fits the words is high praise indeed.

Thank you so much,
Thank you so much, jacketbundock! As gg said, that is a very high compliment. And I strongly urge anyone to go read the pieces written at lccmf and listen to the playing even more- even if you aren't a fan of classical, it is some of the most beautiful, moving music you will ever hear. (Even better, go to LCCMF next summer. It's great.)
