Drowning in the Rain
Keep on moving, don’t mind me
I’m just that girl sitting in the corner
At the company Christmas party
Clutching her eggnog like a drowning man at a rope
You know I’m not there, you know?
I’m not there, you know?
And I’m listening to Let it Be
The album, not the song
And when they play that title track
I can’t help but cry and sing along
Cause it’s all there, you know?
It’s all there, you know?
And it’s taken me so long to get here
It’s taken me so long to understand
I’ve been walking this road for a thousand and one sunsets
When I should’ve been looking up at the ocean foam stormclouds
All of us are clowns
Our smiles just painted on
All of us are parrots
Imitating those around us
We say our troubles are unique
But in reality they’re all the same
We say we’re swimming in the sun
But we’re actually drowning in the rain
And I look at the comic books of our lives
Superman lettering and indelible ink
Depicting our losses, loves, and ties
And I trace the faces with my fingernail
Cause I don’t know what’s there, you know?
What there’s, you know?
And it’s taken me so long to get here
It’s taken me so long to understand
I’ve been walking this road for a thousand and one sunsets
When I should’ve been looking up at the ocean foam stormclouds
All of us are clowns
Our smiles just painted on
All of us are parrots
Imitating those around us
We say our troubles are unique
But in reality they’re all the same
We say we’re swimming in the sun
But we’re actually drowning in the rain
And I’m sitting here writing this damn tune
On the phone with the angelic looking liars
Promising that I’ll be done soon
And the watchers gaze down from the mountaintops
Making sure we’re all there, you know?
Sure, we’re all there, you know?
And we’re all so goddamn jaded
Does naïveté even exist anymore?
We’re all so goddamn faded
And I’ll lie while looking in your kaleidoscope eyes
And tell you that I’m getting there, you know?
I’m getting there, you know?
And it’s taken me so long to get here
It’s taken me so long to understand
I’ve been walking this road for a thousand and one sunsets
When I should’ve been looking up at the ocean foam stormclouds

Holy, holy...
Wow. Seriously, wow. Wow to the 98th power.
This is so....(I can't even find a word.) It makes me want to cry and confess and sing and be happy and dance and rejoice all at once. I've never read anything like it. It's.....incredible.
Thank you so much for writing it.

Wow. *laugh* Um, thank you? I don't really know what to say to that!
I'm so glad you loved it! I wrote it on Christmas Day (the combination of Beatles+Neil Gaiman+ Tori Amos comics always gives me ideas) and it's just taken a while to get posted.
I'm presuming you're the one who made it a daily read, so thanks a boatload for that!
I'm really pleased you liked it. I'm not always certain about my songs, and I wasn't 100% sure about this one (more like 86%), but thank you for making me sure, and thank you for your comment. It's really made my day.

Yeah...
Yeah...sorry about the insane comment....I was in a sort of complicated mood. Ugh.
No...it wasn't me who made it a Daily Read. But, I wasn't surprised that it is, though.
Neil Gaiman! Isn't he the one who wrote Anasazi Boys? (I don't believe I spelt that correctly...) I absolutely love that book! (I haven't read his comics though....are those good?)
I don't mind! I'm glad you

Yeah, he wrote Anansi Boys. He also wrote a comic series called The Sandman which is absolutely brilliant.
But what I was thinking of was Comic Book Tattoo, which is a series of comics based around lyrics by Tori Amos. It's incredible, and always cures my writer's block.

I really love your writing. This is very awesome. If you ever happened to do music for it, I would love love love to hear it podcasted. :D

Thank you!
I can't sing to save my life. But I'm thinking about asking a friend of mine if she would do the vocals and another friend if she would do piano. So maybe it will happen!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the comment,
December.

"Superman lettering and indelible ink"
This is stunning, dear. Really, I think it might be my favorite of yours. It's really ver good. The wording is wonderful. Your tone is just... it's lovely. "Superman lettering and indelible ink" I love that line... it's perfect. I just... I can't get over this. It's lovely. Great job.

I wrote it on Christmas Day. I haven't posted it because I haven't been sure of it. Especially since I wrote it all out of order. I think the chorus was actually the last thing I wrote.
I'm really glad you liked it, cheers for the comment,
December.
