Global Warming

Global Warming. That is a big problem, so big it is surprising that our current president could possibly overlook it. Global Warming is a really big problem, and those of you who think it’s not, you are wrong. If I were president, I would prove that to everybody. I would do everything in my power to stop it it, it would be one of my biggest concerns.
Cars that run on fossil fuels are a leading producer of CO2 that cause Global Warming, I would press automakers for more cars that run on hydrogen, E85 or E25, and electricity. Hydrogen doesn’t create any CO2, the only exhaust from it is water. E85/E25 is either 25% or 85% ethanol, which is made from corn. It might not run entirely on ethanol, but it uses significantly less gasoline and CO2 than a normal car engine. Engines that can run on electricity are like ethanol engines, they don’t run solely on electricity, but partly on electricity and partly on gasoline, giving them more miles of travel for each gallon of gas, and producing less CO2. More filling stations for hydrogen and E85/E25, plus places where you could charge cars that have electric hybrid engines, would be built, to make fuel cell and hybrid vehicles more practical. Right now, there are very few gas stations that have hydrogen,E85/E25, or charging stations for electric hybrid cars, making fuel cell and hybrid vehicles not very practical.
Coal Power plants are another major contributor to Global Warming, I would have more nuclear, which creates a nuclear reaction, which creates heat. The heat creates steam, which turns turbines in the plant to create electricity. and hydroelectric power plants, which use the power of water to spin turbines in the dam, that produce electricity. built to provide cleaner energy. Nuclear power plants may be a hassle to build, but once they are up and running, they are very clean.
All of the things that I talked about, plus the help of willing people, could cut down on and, hopefully, reverse Global Warming sometime in the future. If we cut down on Global Warming now, future generations won't have to deal with it.

Very..
BRYCE: Very good descriptions, information and reasons to change our president to a new person.
A Big Subject
Jay,
I was glad to see you take on this issue in an essay. I certainly agree that it's a major problem, and the more young people like you who can talk about it and realize its importance, the better. Hopefully we can galvanize this country (and the world) to do something significant before it's too late.
You use strong, decisive language here, and it works well. And you cover two of the truly important sources of CO2 in the atmosphere, cars and power plants. I have a couple suggestions for you, however. The first has to do with the tone of your first paragraph: while I heartily agree that people who do not believe in global warming are flat wrong, in a piece like this you are trying to be persuasive - and that means taking a slightly more understanding approach. The way to convince people in this case is to provide hard evidence, and more importantly, evidence that matters to your audience. So in this case, talking about HOW global warming will effect people's lives might be the most effective approach. When your Vermont audience hears that their maple trees will die and they won't be able to ski any more due to a lack of snow, they might actually feel like global warming is a problem after all.
The other suggestion I have is to keep researching your facts, because global warming research is continuing to evolve. Ethanol, for example - while certainly better than staying with gasoline alone - is now considered problematic due to the amount of resources that it takes to produce corn, and the resulting problems with food supply to poorer parts of the world that rely on corn for their daily meals. And nuclear power may not use fossil fuels, but the cost and pollution that goes into building a plant is huge, and we still don't have a good way to dispose of the spent fuel.
So I guess my message is, keep it up, keep learning, and keep writing! The more you know, the more you'll be able to share. You're already on the right track. (Oh, and don't forget to check your work carefully for typos.)
