That Cold Soccer-Season Day
I can still see you walking towards me
With those wide open arms
That held me tight that day
That set off ringing alarms.
And I can still feel that kiss
It’s on the brink of going away
I remember how your face lit up
That cold soccer-season day.
It was right after your game
I kissed you on the cheek
I owed that to you
It made my knees weak.
But I couldn’t keep on wishing
That something good would come out of it
It took too long for me to see
For me to even admit.
That it wasn’t what I wanted,
Nothing at all like I planned
I wanted so badly to be yours
But my wish wasn’t my command.
We weren’t true or just
It was just something silly
That’s how it seemed you thought of it
Something that wasn’t really.
But I can still see that day
As clear as it could be
It’s right there in my head
Right where I can see.
It’s probably my fault
That it all went wrong anyway
But it’s over with now
So I’ll just remember and pay.
