Week 14: Lost & Found -- Reber

Into the woods
By Charlotte Reber

Lamoille Union High School, Grade 10

I’m lost somewhere, I don’t know how.
But the forest knows exactly where I am.
Everywhere around me are the trees,
Silently watching my wandering path.
I’d feel alone,
But there’s no such thing as silence in the woods.
The brook nearby is singing,
But I can’t make out the tune.
I climb a maple tree and look for the sun.
It dances between the clouds with endless grace.
I try to follow it on the ground,
Walking past ferns as tall as my head.
The forest smells of leaves and sun,
Carried on the back of a gentle breeze.
I stand on a stone and pet the green moss.
It’s as bright as life, and as soft as dreams.
I look out the field, and smile.
I’m never really far from home.
