Beauty

The wonderful Tigger's picture
Beauty

Beauty

I enter that word into the search bar

why is it that all the pictures are of girls,

some half naked,

some wearing enough makeup

to mask them from everyone's eyes?

Yet when I change it to beautiful

I come up with a wide assortment of images.

Should that make any sense?
So many quotes about beauty exist

so many misconceptions

and yet John Constable, possibly hit it spot on

"There is nothing ugly;

I never saw an ugly thing in my life:

for let the form of an object be what it may,

--
light, shade, and perspective
will always make it beautiful."

How can anyone deny,
as many frequently do
the beauty of every day things around us?
True, every one admits how beautiful nature is
in the delicate things
and the destructive ones
and the ones that don't belong on this earth.

The seasonal flowers,
erupting volcanos,
constellations that paint the sky

And yet we never think
about the other beautiful things
about the smiles and laughter
that graces peoples' lips,
people volunteering their time
for no personal gain,
a sign forbidding the use of drugs and alcohol
in a school area

Of those two categories,
what would you consider the most beautiful?

And yet we are ensnared

in a world of artificial beauty

left wishing that people would open their eyes

and allow themselves to see
the natural beauty

in everything around us

The Wonderful Tigger,

I agree with everything you have said here in your writing. It is really important to have this positive outlook on life and being able to see everything in such a beautiful light. Instead of quoting John Constable, maybe you can try to capture what he's saying in your own words. This may make your piece more powerful becuase its something that comes from your own thoughts.  I think the picture you posted really helps in giving people a visual into what your trying to say, which is always an extra nice touch. Overall really nice job with your writing, keep up the good work!

I really like this piece,

I really like this piece, especially coupled with the image at the top of the page. You bring up a wonderful point. "Should that make any sense?"

The tone of your poem is so powerful. I could tell that you are passionate about the contrasting social definitions of the words, and that you truly believe, like Constable, that nothing is ugly. I would have loved it if you had written your own stanza about the quote, rather than simply inputting it. I think this would have made your poem flow better, because the tone would match, and you could choose your own words. It can be tough to change somethings words, when they are already so beautiful, to your own beautiful words, but I am positive that you are capable of that! You should give it a try sometime :)

Overall, I think this is a wonderful poem, and I'm excited to read more of your work!

Tigger:

This is very perceptive. I like the tone a lot and it's so very true. I'm one of those people who gets very excited about really random things being beautiful, like Miles Davis and negative spaces and the smell of hail in spring.

I do have to say that the picture is very cool, but I find it a little ironic that the eye featured is wearing a crapload of make-up even though that's the opposite of what your poem says! But that's not relevant, and doesn't make your poem any less awesome.

Keep it up.

I'm not trying to ruin anybody's life. Sometimes I'm just really, really bad at doing people favors.
