A Needle In My Arm

It's like I'm just about to be released

from the hospital of hell that has been my life

finally recovered.

I came in with a ripped heart,

broken and scratched,

and they gave me a vaccine,

a needle in my arm,

something to help with the pain.

And I'm packing my things, 

and I'm making my bed,

I'm just starting to walk out of my room

Finally realizing that it's coming to an end

Finally catching glimpses of the bright side once more

when you walk in

and punch me in the shoulder.

And the vaccine they gave me

The needle in my arm

The pain of it all comes back

It's like it never happened

Because you punched my sore spot as hard as you could

and sent me reeling back into my hospitalization

as if I'd just had my surgery,

just gone through the transplant.

I never asked you to visit.

I never asked you to come.

I didn't want you to take care of me

or give me a ride

or hold my suitcase.

I didn't ask for that.

I asked for you to leave me

For you to stop

I asked for you to keep yourself to yourself

So I could keep myself from you.

You heard me twice

You'll ignore me thrice

And being the good friend you are,

you'll punch me again

you'll knock me back into this shit

all over again.
