Without them we would have never been. Their caring echoes across the years. Talking, walking, running, laughing. They are the beginning.
Caring for bumps and bruises, scrapes and pains. Telling us our music is beautiful, although it grates upon the ear. Hanging our colorful scribbles proudly on the fridge, admiring what they are supposed to be.
What would we do without mothers? Without someone shouting encouragement as we struggle up a hill on a bicycle? Without someone to show us how fun sports can be?
Without my mother I wouldn't have gotten very far. I wouldn't have played soccer or lacrosse, or hockey especially. I wouldn't have excelled so much in school without her expectations. I wouldn't still be playing the violin. Without my mother, I wouldn't be here at all.
