Shakespeare's Brandenburg (lccmf)
This was inspired by the Affettuouso of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 in D Major. It was, without a doubt, one of the most touching classical I've heard---much of the passion Soovin and Tara played with contributed to this, of course.
Soovin’s heart-wrenching Stradivarius guards
the flute.
They are lovers who weep under
the harpsichord’s moonlight in this lulling
Affettuouso.
{Sophie, the cellist, sits erect in her seat---
she is captivated,
eyes closed,
touched.}
The violin and the flute,
they tumble into a quarrel---
their love is a delicate flower that sheds
each petal with every lasting note.
The flute caresses the last petal with a quivering
vibrato,
and the violin holds her with a crescendo,
a silence that dissolves barriers.
They are Montagues and Capulets
whose eyes kiss in the present
and long for the other.
Amidst Soovin’s trills,
the star cross’d lovers lie beside one another,
sinking into a resolution.
The flute and the violin merge,
their past reverberating in the vast halls,
waning under the harpsichord.
Soovin smiles,
the audience breathes,
Sophie feels the jolt of her emotions
in her idle chair.
The notes resonate within me,
the story,
tacit words gently traced out
by Bach.
In moments, a sanguine Allegro
sweeps over me,
drawing me from the hallows of the past.
