YWP College Mentors

The Young Writers Project is fortunate to have several dozen top students from the University of Vermont, Saint Michael's College, Middlebury College and Castleton State College who are providing feedback on each student submission to YWP's newspaper series.

Many of these college students are in honors programs and/or serve as writing tutors at their schools. They will tell you what they liked about your piece and what one thing you could do to improve it. You can then link to your story and make changes -- if you want.

Here's how it works:

When you make an "entry" to our Newspaper Series, a college mentor will read the piece, make his or her comments and then send you an email. In the email, you will have a link back to your story where you can read the comment.

We plan to have the mentors provide feedback on almost all of the submissions. Be patient; our goal is to eventually provide feedback on all submissions but that may take a while to achieve.

This sounds like an amazing idea. Not only will us lower grade students get to have feed back, but it will also give the college students a chance to read over work and help edit! Talk about an easy step into the professional world of editing...

That sounds amazing. I've been on this site a while and seen different changes go on but i think that this is one of the best. I personally enjoy outside feedback on my writing and this gives me a great chance to take it in!

Comments by the Mentors are visible in the Recent Comments column on the right. You will only see the Mentors, though, if you are logged in!

I must say I am really looking foward to reading feedback from experienced writers. I have been experimenting with my writing more so lately then before, especially with my poetry, and I would really like some feedback on it, so I find that this is deffinately an excellent idea and a great way to improve.
