Things To Tell My Younger Self

Your home will be forever changing. Your life will not be measured by the dents in a wall, or the pictures on the ceilings. You will not have a childhood best friend. You will not have the privilege of tripping over the same stair again and again and again. Instead you will measure your life in the number of boxes sitting unopened in the basement(s). You will worry that you have lost the ability to make a space your own. That you will decide to push away the pretty pictures and the twinkle lights. It will become harder and harder to retain a friend, and once you have finally found some good ones, it will be time to leave again. Origin stories will be interesting. Complex. You will have to find yourself outside of the textbook definition. It will be up to you to decide where home is. Where you really belong.

The perfect girl does not exist. She is elusive. A wisp in the wind. Do not try to follow her because she will take you down roads dark and deep.

Go out and be a kid. Do not be afraid to jump up and down and scream. You are not a second parent, and you do not deserve to be treated like one. Eat all the popsicles you want. Spin around until you throw up. Bawl your eyes out and don’t give a damn about inconveniencing anyone.

Get new glasses. You had those ones for too long.
