Pushing the USDA

Beef recall story link
In reflection of last week’s beef recall is it possible that the entire issue could have been avoided. I think that one of the problems, with our food industry is that not enough people care about where their beef is coming from or how it gets to them. If the people made more of commitment to speak out and make sure that animals are being treated humanely, then maybe the USDA would catch the people mistreating animals, and it wouldn’t be left up to the HSUS to do it for them.
I have noticed that a lot of people do not try to think about where their beef is coming from, and that is understandable. It is hard to eat a hamburger, when all you can think about is it being a member of the same class (Mammalia) as you. If people were more concerned, and pushed the USDA to ensure that animals are being treated humanely, then maybe we wouldn’t have to worry about mad cow disease getting into our nation’s food supply.
