Daydreams

Deep in the woods of birch, maple, and pine

The beauty of the forest to see is all mine.

In the mornings the birds sing, greeting the sun

As the rays filter through the leaves, one by one.

My Wishes of Life

My wish goes something like this, Friendship.

My wish goes something like this, Love.

My wishes go something like this, Friendship, Love, and Peace.

You Whisked Away my Soul

Rewinding from the tragic ending

Back towards the glistening start

You whisked away my soul

Then captured my opened heart

The one who made me whole

I pray that you shall rest in peace

This was what you sought in life

Too young and warm to be deceased

And though the pain will never fade

I’ll someday see your shining light

 Even through the clouded shade

war and stuff.

Everyone's ultimate goal is peace. Some people just think the best way to achieve this goal is through the domination of other people. Or war, if you will. I like to call those people idiots.

reaching peace

Who do i touch,

not just with my hands,

but with my heart?

Who's path can I change?

Who can I help?

Who can I save?

Who can I love?

If I can affect peoples path's,

than what else can I do?

What else can we do? Together,

as one?

So join me in this fight for peace,

take my hand, come with me.

Let's change people's paths,

and the world will know peace,

finally,

at last.

Fire in my soul

I draw my strength from her voice,

my power from her laugh,

my soul from her smile.

I draw goodness from her,

and use it on myself.

I am selfish, uncaring and idiotic without her.

I have the strength to do anything now,

I love her.

For her, I would do anything.

I would do ANYTHING.

ANYTHING

I love her.

I Dream in Color

I dream in color
I see the light
If we can’t stand each other
It isn’t even worth the fight

I dream in color
It’s easy to see
That we’re fighting each other
To build the American dream

Well, I know the difference
Between boys and girls
And you might want to listen
If you want to change the world

‘Cause I know the difference
between white men and black
It’s so insignificant
It’s not even worth turning your back Read more »

Under the Covers

I like watching the beads of rain
weave through the mesh of my window,
the clouds gray to solemn shades,
the strikes of lightening
like a snake;
so spontaneous, unexpected,
menacing.
I like watching the lights turn off
in a domino effect,
wave through the neighborhood
until I’m the only one awake.
It gives me power,
control,
like I’m the only one watching,
and nobody will ever know.

As the lights glimmer on the highway,
New York flashes into the small suburb;
tall skyscrapers,
the bustle of cars,
jingles of music humming through my ear. Read more »

When Life was Simpler

Life was much simpler
When all we could do was dream
We would cry and we would scream
We couldn’t talk
And we couldn’t walk

The thoughts in your head
Were things they had said
Remembering them all
We cannot recall
A thought of food
Or how people are rude
How they’re not very nice
Let them roll the dice

We were so young then
Remembering what life could’ve been
We couldn’t speak
Dripping drool off our cheek
And all we could hear
Was the sound of them cheer
For what they think is so great
But really they hate

The things they don’t notice Read more »

Through a bird’s eye

Soaring through the soft silk air,
The warm wind blowing my hair back in an Elvis fashion,
Below me are the trees and oceans and rivers galore…
Animals grazing and fish diving
in and out of the waves of the sea.
Not a single sight of Humanity,
Just me, Nature and the water below,
No sign of destruction of the land,
No buildings, cars, trucks or roads.
Just rolling hills, plains, water and wild life,
Before the time of the industries.
Before humans abused their power,
Before humans began destroying this Earth
That they shared with billions of other species. Read more »

Peace Poem

Peace Poem
I try to turn our war into peace but you just make our hate increase. So I’m becoming the bigger person no more hating no more cursing. I chose my part to do I’m going to apologize to you.

I’m sorry for my hurtful words
I’m sorry for those who herd
I’m sorry for the times I lied
Or the times I made you cry
I’m sorry for my awful act
I’m sorry I left you in my dusty track
I’m sorry I had to write this tuneless song
To admit I was wrong.
I’m sorry our lives won’t turn out the way people say
I’m sorry for this living lie
I’m sorry for this endless cry Read more »

Blue Swirls

Blue Swirls
By: Derrick S.

Epic shades and twisted swirls
Employ the senses to music and harmony:
Peace, shine, soul.
I see the sky and water,
Amounts to blue in a few seconds.
They dance, laugh, and learn
All at once; see them smile.

Utopia

My perfect world would be a world much unlike this one. The entire world would be unified, and led by one, with a socialized healthcare system, and no real form of economy. Bartering for things with property would be reintroduced. For example, if someone went into a restaurant, and ordered a dinner and dessert, that would be worth about 9 eggs. This would, I think, encourage people to live off the land, and not off the stock market. Read more »

pahulatopia

There is a world that lies beyond us. A better world. A world of magic. It's called Pahulatopia. The people that live there are small and they are called pahulas. But their story is a different one. I am here to talk about their world. The sky is orange, the ground is purple, the clouds are green and the plants are all colors of the rainbow. To find pahulatopia you must fallow these steps:
1. find the north star
2. find the star 2 away from it on the right side
3.close your eyes and say "pahula" 3 times.
4. open your eyes Read more »

My Utopia

The perfect world
A world full of joy
A world for a girl
And a world for a boy

The perfect world
A place or beauty
A place of wonder
And each other

The perfect world
A world to learn lessons
A world of moving on
A world of love
And a world of forgiveness

The perfect world
A place of peace
A place of well being
A place of happiness
A place of perfection
My Utopia just mine

Light and Dark

We are humans
We are two faced
We are night and day
We are good and evil
No mortal can live on one side

At some point in life
We all hate
We all become jealous
Our lust
Our greed
It brings our downfall
We are dark

We all love
We all care
Our sympathy
Our generosity
We are light

This ratio
It balances our lives
It brings grief
It brings elation

Waking up on Saturday Morning

Going to sleep at night
Waking with the sun so bright
Woke before my alarm's ringing
With the morning birds singing
I woke up on a Saturday morning
I also heard my dad snoring
It was a quiet morning

A Sanctuary

A rustle of leaves; red, orange, and yellow.
Backdrop rising to the cloud filled skies,
a vast mountain overlooking the white slumber of peace.

Go inside.
Strong young hands rest on pews
as camouflage dots the room.
Some cadets in realms of dreams, in fits of laughter, or heads bowed in prayer.

Sanctuary.
A wall of sacred books rests in back.
Some bindings new while others contain a wonderful
old book smell.

Listen.
Music reverberates in the room.
The piano keys pressed for anyone willing to open their ears. Read more »

Congo

Congo

By Hannah Gelb
Thetford Academy, Grade 8

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, there is a significant amount of confusion and anxiety. Many refugees live in the Congo because of constant fighting and rampages, kicking them out of there homes. Most of these refugees don't know where they will end up when the sun goes down. Some may be lucky enough to find a shelter, and others find the streets. Living in the poverty of Congo makes the struggle to stay alive even more difficult for citizens when there is instability throughout the country. One of the few reliable sources in the past has been Congo's and surrounding countries' governments. It is very challenging for Congo to uphold a sturdy government with so much corruption and ethnic disagreements. Read more »

To Fly

This just popped into my head. It may be continued...

She lived on a star at the end of the galaxy. All alone, trapped in the endless confines of the empty edge of space, alone in desolate blackness, framed in cold, starlit light. Her world, her star, was nothing, devoid of any oxygen, and water, any life. There was only her, her and the infinite space.
At least, that was what it felt like.
Her star was a tree, framed with other trees, a forest of leafy splendor that reached eternally up into the clouds, burying itself in the stars. The real stars. Read more »

And What About Green

Green is the color of grass,
The stuff kids like to roll in,
Or lay in at night,
To look up at the stars.

Green is the color of money,
The stuff in which we are dependent,
With it we get what we want,
Or maybe quite the opposite.

Green is the color of peace,
And sometimes even calmness,
The stuff to help a baby fall asleep,
Or make a little kid anxious.

Green is the color of me,
‘cause green is my favorite,
Keeps true and happy,
Green is my serenity.

Forgotten Song

The lazy, cotton clouds
Drift peacefully overhead, powdering the turquoise skies
With a sugary sweetness
They pass us slowly by
Singing, in soft, sweet voices
A song that we've forgotten

Irresistible outlines of peace,
The sugary clouds, like a forgotten conscience
Hover loyally, eternally over us
Outlasting the red bursts of fiery orange sunset
And resting through the star-splotched nights
They love to smile down upon us forgivingly
As they gently sing a melody
That we've forgotten

The soothing, lamb-like clouds
Trustingly follow us, their shepherds, through heavenly blue pastures
Watching us from afar
Lovingly humming a gentle lullaby
That is carried on the wind's breath
Towards our waiting ears
Those clouds float by sweetly
Smiling comfortingly, utterly contented
With their powdered sugar world
They sing a beautiful song
That we strain our ears to hear, but can't make out
As we drown out the silent song with noise
Obliterating that perfect harmony, Read more »

Words of the People

Why in the world is there so much violence?
So many tears and sleepless nights?
All the eyes of those who are different silenced;
everyone blinded by closed hearts so tight.

Bare feet run along the dusty red ground,
every pounding pulse is the will to survive.
Words of different tribes are yelled with no sound,
and another innocent soul in heaven arrives.

Straw hats and shovels mark a brown man’s life,
the sun directing all of his ways.
In the streets, a wrong word is met by a knife,
leaving the man with nothing left to say.

Angled brown eyes all look exactly the same;
their wits enough to make them very smart.
Yet leaving their babies on the street bring no shame,
since they were overpopulated from the very start.

One person says that we need to go to war.
The next thing you know, more men are dead.
Now money is scarce, and job opportunities unsure.
Every middle class person has new tears to shed.

All of their life’s, they are lead by their creed, Read more »

Winter

Snow
Blankets the soil
Ice glitters on the ponds
Cold ripples
through my fingertips
As the familiar
Smells and sounds and sights
Of winter
surround me

Snowflakes drift
onto my eyelashes
The silent,
peaceful haven
My breathing
sounds loud
In the hush
I seem so
insignificant
In comparison to
The powerful,
Triumphant
Mask of white

Smoke drifts
Out of the
Chimney
The
Tea kettle
Screeches
Disrupting
The
Still,
Diplomatic

Simple Peace

The silent white snow glided across the dark windows, while peace settled over the house. The reflection of the Christmas tree with its white lights on the windows represented the enchantment of the holidays. Anticipation was high within the house, or at least with myself, wondering about my presents I would receive and hoping my parents would enjoy theirs. The perfectly wrapped Christmas gifts from my mom and dad sat beside the messy bows and crumpled paper of my own wrapped presents. The lights from the holiday decorations filled the room with warmth and peace while the silent snow continued to fall. Read more »
