Writer's Block

I know that I should be writing,
But I can’t.
Running thoughts block my head.
People can’t stop talking.
My head feels like it is going to explode.
I am waiting for the sweet silence of home.
Away from all the noise.
A place were my thoughts can escape onto a blank page.
I can let my head breath there.
Maybe. Maybe Not.

My head finds it funny when I can’t write.
I don't.
Please just let my ideas flow!
I feel like a dammed river trying to break the hold.
It’s so hard and mentally tiring.
I want my hands to flow easily over the keys like they usually do.
Impossible. Read more »

Trapped

The windows are like barriers.
Two panes of glass.
Allowing me to see the wonders outside.
But not be in their midst.

The warmth,
Birds,
Fresh Air.
Serenity.

When I sit in the classroom,
I can hear all that’s going on the other side of the glass.

Chirps.
Wind.
Leaves rustling.
Peaceful.

I wish to be out there--
Enjoying it.
Instead, I am stuck inside a concrete box,
Putting pencil to paper.
Spending my day,
Looking,
Through the window.

Princess

There once was a girl,
With goldeny curls.
A princess she was,
and pretty, just cause.

The wicked witch came,
To kidnap the dame.
The prince was so lame,
He burped up a flame.

The flame was so large,
It looked like a barge,
The witch climbed aboard,
Her weight snapped the cord.

This cord held the boat,
But it held it no more,
For the boat drifted off,
Far away from the shore. Read more »

Eagle

Sleek feathers gleaming,
Talons scraping the raw ground,
Air is crisp and fresh.

The answer

If a swallow flaps its wings 43 times/second, then what
is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

Is it (A), sardonic condemnation; (B), lines of longitude and latitude hindered the spread of technology and ideas in pre-Colombian America; maybe (C), cos2 t; or possibly (D), something you didn’t understand, or even learn, in class?

The answers don’t make any sense,
the themes from passages
went completely over my head.
Who even thought up these questions?
Is the swallow African? Or European?

SATs, NECAPs, Spodek quizzes,
the AP exam, even a permit test, Read more »

Shaken, not stirred

Did you know that ordering your martini
shaken instead of stirred is considered
a faux pas because shaking bruises the gin?
But who the hell wants to question
Bond, James Bond?

007 is the iPhone of being a proper man:
When you can’t decide between
the Dom Perignon ’53 or ’55,
there’s an app for that!
(James prefers the ’53).

So, you suspect your girlfriend is an evil femme fatale
who might crush you between her toned thighs?
Undress her now and ask questions later;
if the situation get out of hand, don’t panic, Read more »

Puppeteer

The burning flame of outrage,
Lit upon so many torches,
The sharpened edge of hate,
Shining in all of their pitchforks,
Together they thrive,
And the riot marches on.

Blooded hands settled comfortably,
Into the worn grooves of their gun,
Stumbling through a battlefield,
Stained with broken ties and promises,
Seemingly the last on left,
In this field of dread,
The forgotten soldier staggers on.

And behind the curtains of our madness,
Kneel the mighty essence of Greed,
Jerking the strings of its puppets,
Observing how we react,
Laughing hysterically all the while. Read more »

Crazy Things

She walks by me without a glance
Which tells me her interest is without a chance.
Next day comes with a different twist.
She smooths her hands around me
And my head swirls with bliss.
You say one thing that seems a lie
But you seem confused with thoughts that fill your head.
I dont know what to say anymore
Except that I hope we can be friends for long.
It dazes me to think of you
And when you give me your greatest smile.
I just can't help, but look..
At what beauty you seem to shine.
Next day comes around with a chiller end.
I see a couple fliers that say
She's dead. Read more »

A Year to Remember

A Year to Remember

7th grade is over.
Mr. Bishop did a lunch box fashion show.
I read over 25 books
and learned about ratios.

I ate a lot of skittles.
And quite a few lollipops.
Wrote a great deal of poems
and read on the beanbag. FLOP!

We used the Van De Graaff.
And did YWP poetry.
Insulted each other Shakespearean style
And learned about bugs in river ecology. Read more »

The River

The River

The River
flows smoothly across the land
winds around mountains
down the valleys
and ends in the ocean.
I stand on the bank
and slowly wade in
the cold water surrounds my body.
Consuming more of me as I go in deeper.
The water numbs my body as i go under
Cold water
rushing over me
consuming me
numbing me
carrying a part of me with it
down the flowing current
washed away
gone forever.
Cold water
consuming me
washing the bad away.

I Never Thought

I never thought
It would hurt this much
I never thought
It would hurt.
I graduate
In just over a week
Bur I never thought
It would hurt.
I gave the flute back
To my band teacher today,
But I never thought
It would hurt.
I hugged my friend
As I cried my tears
Bur I never thought
It would hurt.
I talked about
Graduation plans,
But I never thought
It would hurt.
I talked to my teacher
About my future,
But I never thought it would hurt.
I gave back the music
To my teachers,
But I never thought
It would hurt.
I nearly gave up
On the path I had chosen Read more »

I Wandered As Shy As A Lamb

I wandered down the hall
still as shy as a lamb,
I remember everyone seemed so tall,
as I stared around at the school that I am
for the next four years to go,
so that I can learn and grow.

I walked into my first class
though then unsure where to sit
and saw, through the mass
of students, objects that I admit
seemed to stare back, bemused,
at the hands by which they would soon be used.

That day, though quite uneventful,
nevertheless did make its mark
as my first day completely full
of new people and their odd remarks
about every aspect of the day Read more »

So I wrote this

Twelve pieces of writing is way too much
It’s hard to write so many long stories and such

I can’t figure out what to write
And me and myself are starting to fight

The river of ideas has dried up
I have nothing to rhyme with this except for What’s Up

I like to write about stuff
But all that’s in my head is Fluff

I can’t write without ideas in my head
So I might as well just go to bed

I’ll sleep on it tonight
And see just what might

Pop into my head

It might be a poem
Or maybe a history of Rome

It could be a short story
Or a long biography of Edward Gory Read more »

Bubble Gum

Bubble gum,
It’s gooey and gruesome,
All jumbled and mumbled,
As slimy as a bar of sopping soap,
Dripping with spit,
Pinkish and sticky-sweet,
A stretchy wad in my cheek,
“SNAP!”
It cackles as I pop it back into my mouth.

Choices

Their lives are difficult
Like a fork in the road
You either go right, or left

Sometimes you know which way you’re going,
You like which way you’re going
Sometimes you are stuck in the middle, can’t make a choice

Right or Left
Left or Right
Right or Left.
Which is safer,
Which is smarter,
Which is better,

But you know
Eventually, you have to choose

The right decision isn’t always easy

“‘We’re goin’ back and turn ourselves in.’”

The Outsiders

Seven boys, friends forever
They are different, yet the same
A family outside family
A friendship tied strong

Lonely, yet together;
Forgotten, yet loved.
Someone they can turn to
Someone who won’t judge

Amidst loss, fear, pain and suffering
They’re always there for each other
Healing all the hurt

Comforting, caring, depending, giving
Laughing, joking, having fun.
Helping when in need

Trustworthy and dependable, yet judged
Looked down on, mocked, endless tourture
Yet still, they are strong
Strong as steel, hard as rock, tough as nails Read more »

Murder Mystery

Chapter 1
“Help! Help!” Yelled the girl on the floor above me. I quickly ran up stairs but I heard a gun shot. I hid behind an oak table that was placed out side Jenney’s apartment in the hall way. I peaked in and saw Jenny lying on the floor in a pool of blood. Jenny was dead and the killer was just about to walk out as I ducked back behind the oak table again. I caught a quick glance of the guys face, and when he left I reached in my right pocket and grabbed my cell phone. I called 911. A woman answered on the other line saying.
“911 what’s your emergency?” Read more »

Bullies

What battle have I fought?
Why do they do it?
Why does she tease? Who's being taught?

Poking, prodding, talking
Saying things that bruise feelings.
Tripping, kicking, stalking
Teasing, bullying, fighting.

Rumors and lies
Saying things that make things sting.
Whispering, laughing, sneers
Secrets, don't tell!

Caring what everybody wears
Making you hurt for long.
Keeping the memory in you
Bullying is wrong!

Fishing Derby

This year I am doing the fishing derby, and so is my friend, Hunter. I might see him there. I have been doing it since 2007. I have one trophy for catching the biggest fish. Whenever you do the fishing derby you will get a shirt with a fish on it and a name tag. Here are some clothes you should wear when you do the fishing derby: rubber boots, old pants or old shorts, a hat. When you fish make sure you have a fishing pole, tackle, worms. Make sure you have a parent with you, so in case you get hurt casting your pole or anything you will have a parent to help you if you get hurt.

Dream

Dream

I’m tired of teddy bears,
Little girls with golden curls,
Unicorns and fairy tales,
Of pretending to be witty,
Or so very cool.
I love ballet and dream of dancing
But could I even keep a beat?
I love to sing,
But the tune won’t come.
To be an actress,
But believe me
There is no hope in becoming one.

So long I’ve lived in my own world.
I’ve tried to be me,
And found not me
But someone else.
So who am I?
No one knows
If I cannot even answer this question myself.

Around the corner, there I am.
On a white horse,
Riding into the sunset. Read more »

Jungle Thunder

Jungle thunder pulsates throughout the trees with a gleaming flicker.
The murmur of its angry roar remains unique in the atmosphere,
but the shining radiance of lightning fades quicker.

Ominous clouds shift in the sky, resembling a fluffy vortex of grey and white.
Jungle thunder strikes fast, sparing a slithering snake,
that barely glances at the storm and disappears into the cool day with approaching night.

Jungle thunder screams once again, shouting one last time.
Then it slowly fades to silence, like a single note on the guitar, Read more »

Summer

Summer

There is something in the air
this time of year,
that makes everyone happier.
Is it the fact that we can finally see the sun
after many long months of it hiding?
Is it the smell of dew
sprinkled on the grass in the early morn?
Or is it that all the children know
that school is almost over
and we can be free of tests and homework
even if only for a couple months.
To me that is it.
Every year when I walk through those doors for the 185th,
whether I was in first grade
fifth grade
and even now,
I feel as though a huge weight
has been lifted off my shoulders. Read more »
