All I Need
Submitted by Rollo28 on Thu, 02/23/2012 - 7:13pm
My Brain
Rotting inside me
Weak
Can’t work without my iPhone, too much pain on my head
Confused
Distraught
I need help!
Get me my iPhone, Please!
I’m in my own little world when it’s with me, I love it!
It’s so great!
It’s what I love to hold in my hands, it makes me warm and happy
My mother tries to ask me a question
Shh… and I shun her
It’s my iPhone and that’s all I need with me
It’s a relationship but not with a human
My iphone!

YWP Plugged in Prompt
It is my belief that electronic devices themselves cannot affect our minds, lives, and relationships unless we allow them to. Some people spend enormous amounts of time on electronic devices. Most of those people spend that time on social networking sites, and as long as they spend their time and not anyone else’s as well as not spending too much time then that is fine. It is fully someone’s choice to use an electronic device, the machines can assert no will over people and when somebody sends someone a text, it is the person who gets the text who chooses whether or not to answer the text. It is also my opinion that if someone decides to spend his time on the internet instead of doing something they are supposed to do then that is fine, as long as they are willing to accept the consequences. Many people have no problems with using electronic devices and keep their use to a minimum. There are many people who spend long amounts of time and many who spend short amounts of time on electronics. How people choose to use devices is generally fine, as long as people do not hurt or in some way injure other people in using them. Because of this how influenced people are by electronics also varies, and it does not really matter how much you use electronics as they cannot directly affect your life unless you let them. Also, how people choose to use devices does not matter as long as people do not hurt or in some way injure other people in using them.
Plugged In
Submitted by clamay on Thu, 02/23/2012 - 6:57pmWhen you are playing on their computer, phone, or XBOX; you tend to tune everything out around you. This can affect a family because someone could ask you to do something and you don’t hear what they said, or are slow to respond. Also, someone could get mad at you when they ask you to do something and you respond by saying, “I’ll do it at half time” or “Next commercial” and it either doesn’t happen or takes a long time to get done. Doing this could make someone angry and possibly ruin your day and/or their day. Being “Plugged In” is also bad for other relationships other than family. Friends could argue and get in fights over video games or texting. Friends could get mad if you text someone they don’t like or their girlfriend/boyfriend. Video games like Grand Theft Auto can affect people’s lives because they could think they could do things in the game in real life, which they can’t because that would be illegal. Being “Plugged In” is good in some ways like for entertainment and fun, but can also be harmful for your mind, body, and relationships with others around you.
The Internet
Submitted by hockeychic7 on Thu, 02/23/2012 - 6:41pm“Chaaaachingg!!! Yes, I got the answer”, I said.
My mom said that I was not going to be able to remember the answer on the test. I did not believe her. She also told me that if I just got the answer off the internet and wrote it down on a piece of paper I would not succeed. Of course, I did not believe anything that she said; now I regret that. During the test, I was trying to retain all the information I took off the internet but I could not remember any of it. The only information I could remember was the information that I received the answer from my head or the textbook, not the internet. Now I know that getting things off the internet is not the best choice because I will have a very hard time retaining the information. If you do remember it, it could still be wrong because the internet is not always true. The best way to get information is your brain or a textbook! Getting information from one of these two places is the best because it comes from either your brain or another brain. Yes, people’s brains supplies the internet with its information but this information can just be posted, rather then in your textbook it has to meet the requirements of many people in order for it to be published.

The Internet and electronics can be helpful and beneficial, but only if used and valued correctly. In means of communicating and being socially active, many features of the Internet and devices allow us to stay in touch with people whom we would not be able to without such things. It opens doors to new relationships and allows others to grow. The Internet holds endless amounts of information about everything which is another benefit, as we can learn great amounts from the Internet. Both the Internet and electronic devices can become a bad thing however, as it can make our minds dull from overusing and relying on these things too much. Minds can become dull in a way that reduces our brains efforts in gathering knowledge and make it “lazy”. But for the most part, if you know how to use the Internet and electronic devices and are aware of their benefits, they can be very useful things in our world today.

Do not let the opposition win,
A message, you must send.

To stay away from what I am.
Do, show the world what you are
Or you'll end up like me

I glanced over at the mall food court. The bright florescent lights spotlighted each of the chain fast food booths. My stomach growled like a lion as I neared the Subway counter.
“Can I please have a turkey BLT with provolone cheese on white bread?”
“Sure,” the man said, fumbling around in his apron to find a glove.
“I try to avoid white bread. I hear it makes you fat,” a girl said eyeing my purchase. Her long bleach-blond hair was straightened; her make-up applied perfectly, and her clothes looked like they had just walked off the runway. She looked like the “in” crowd, someone who always had the cutest clothes, the hottest guys, the most popular friends, and went to the coolest parties.
This is the group I wanted to be in. At my old school I had been the quiet, artsy sort, but as my mom said this would be a new start, a chance to reinvent myself as someone who was “popular.” Getting to know her might insure me a seat at the cool table my first day of high school, which seemed much better than sitting awkwardly at a table with nerds or even worse, the chess team.
“That will be $3.75,” the cashier said, holding out my tray. I stuffed my hand in my pocket looking for my money. I counted out $2.00 in quarters; I was short $1.75. I stood there; I could feel my face getting red and my forehead beading with sweat. I knew I didn’t have enough money.
“Here take this.” The girl handed the cashier $5.00. Read more »
Harder or Easier: the Effect Electric Devices and the Internet have on us
Submitted by veronicasioss31 on Tue, 02/21/2012 - 10:49pmAlthough electronic devices and the Internet have helped us achieve the unthinkable and have eased our daily lives, does the accessibility and availability of electronic devices and the Internet make our lives as a whole more difficult?
Electronic devices and the internet were created to make our lives easier, and they sure do when it comes to school work and other necessities (like electricity and running water), but our need to have everything as easy and less straining has in some ways made our lives harder. Because of the Internet and electronic devices people have been interacting much more than they used to, which can help people (such as peers asking each other for help on their homework), but it can also hurt relationships because most of the time you can not understand somebody’s tone of voice over a message of sorts. Through the Internet many social media websites have become popular and a lot of people have them. Many people who have them do not understand the consequences of what they post or share because they do not understand that nothing is private despite all of the methods of “blocking” people there is always a way around it. With the ability to access just about anything or anyone people become engulfed on learning everything they can about anyone which further effects the way people interact with each other. People also don’t understand that once you post something on a social media site it is on the website and on the Internet forever.
Although there are many downfalls to electronic devices and to the Internet , they have taught many much appreciated lessons and also have eased our lives of communication and exploration.

Submitted by mjsicard on Tue, 02/21/2012 - 8:05pmHaley walks down the street, iPod on and blasting, head down, passing everything and everyone by without a glance. She turns and begins up the school steps. All around her kids have their cellphones, iPods, and laptops out, some of them chatting, most of them not. She sits down in the back at a desk, headphones still in, eyes on the cellphone she’s just taken out.
The room is full of the clicking of keys while the teacher faces the board. When she turns around, glazed eyes stare blankly at her, not taking in a single word. She scans the classroom and spots a boy asleep with his head on the desk. He’d spent all night up watching TV instead of doing his homework and going to bed. The bell rings and kids snap out of their daydreams and gather their things.
Madison rises from her seat and heads to the library. She settles down at and open computer next to Seth, pulls up a website for a research paper, and begins to take notes. Seth rises from his chair, logging off and heads to lunch. In line he grabs a sandwich, a bag of chips, and a soda, punching in his pin number to purchase his food. He sits alone, pulling out his MP3player and headphones Read more »
Internet Kills
Submitted by Goalie13 on Fri, 02/17/2012 - 11:04pmInternet Kills
The Internet kills our brain cells,
when we're on our mini dells.
You-tube, Twitter, and Facebooks
takes time from reading on our nooks.
We struggle with talking face-to-face,
when we're used to talking over cyberspace.
We use different language skills,
and all it does is rack up our bills.
The internet does not do anything for us,
other than cause us a little stress.
We need to get outside
and go for a nice stride.

Plugged Into Addiction
Electronics have changed the lives of everyone. My parents always complain that I will be blind and be a hunchback from looking at screens and holding my head down. When I stare at an electronic device for a long time, headaches start to kick in, and my neck hurts from my bad posture. Our minds are turning into mush by putting electronic waves into our brains. After a while, our mind becomes dependent on an electronic device for daily functioning.
When you first receive a new device, the feeling of overwhelming joy shoots through your veins. You start to get addicted, then instantly inseparable. Once you can’t leave your device, you become anti- social and can’t carry on a full conversation without using that new shiny toy you love. The invention of these devices has made society a place where you can only use a device to advance through life. Instead of getting to the inseparable, take a break and go do something active instead of giving your thumbs a workout from playing Temple Run all day. You should only use your device when you absolutely need it, not when you use it just to use it. Electronic devices are a wonderful, terrible thing.
Remembrance Through the Nose
Submitted by Honour Durkee on Thu, 02/16/2012 - 11:10amI close my eyes. I heard her before I could even imagine her entirely there. “Hey, sweetie,” she said, as I opened my eyes. She was sitting there, with one leg crossed ladylike over the other. “Hey, Nana!” I smile, and she smiles back. She was wearing her favorite color, red, and her eyes, although drowned with age and wisdom, were kind and joyful. She patted me on the back and faded away, as the scent of professional perfume escapes the room. I have to get ready for school now. I start to dress into what I’m going to wear. I put my shirt on, and then I’m in Aunt Carolyn’s house, sitting on one of the chairs around the counter, eating cheese and laughing with my cousin. The aroma of their house was distinct in the shirt, as I remember she had borrowed it for a special occasion. So many distinct smells take me back and lets me reminisce and fly away into pure and perfect recent history.
If You Choose Right, You Will Never Be Wrong

I knew him.
I could feel it.
I knew who he was.
We connected
in such a way
That some might even say
That it was destiny,
But then again
Some might say that destiny
Isn’t the path that life gives us
But the path that we choose.
And if we choose right
then we’ll never be wrong.
It’s like we had met,
In another life than this
Somewhere other than this world
Like someother neworld.
We walked upon the gravel
Under those fair lights
They shined like the moon
Dazzled like the bright stars.
That night I met you,
It felt like a different world
Like we had once walked upon
a scrapy dirt path
Under the full moon and lit stars
I curtsied and waved
He bowed and smiled
We were in the market place
Where my father could not see.
We walked closer
and closer
and soon
we were just another.
But we knew each other.
We had met before.
But then I heard my name
Someone yelled
and I glanced
I lost sight of him then.
It was my friend Read more »
Technology Today
Submitted by DylanNoel on Thu, 02/09/2012 - 8:08pmA huge part of my time is spent on the internet, or on an electronic device. When I get home, and after I finish my homework, I almost always play some video games. Later in the night, I usually get on the internet and listen to music or talk to people via facebook. This affects my relationship with other people in both good and bad ways. Most of my friends play the same video games as me, which is usually why I become friends with them. I also rarely go to my friend’s houses, and that is sometimes because of the time I devote to gaming, but I can have conversations with them on facebook.
Many older people believe that the internet and video games are bad for children this is only true in situations where the person is addicted, and it takes up so much of their time that they are not doing homework or not interacting with people. But for the majority of people, this is not the case, and it gives innocent computer geeks a bad name.
facebook is a way that people can stay in touch with far-away friends, and form lasting relationships. Gaming promotes hand-eye coordination and problem solving skills. It also allows players to escape into fantastic worlds, where they can be whoever they want and do whatever they want. Technology is a very useful tool that can be applied in many ways, for many different people.

Wooded bridge
Submitted by d.green on Thu, 02/09/2012 - 2:31pmThere’s a bridge in the forest
where the animals cross
It’s a pinch point
used by the creatures of the wood
On opening day
you might be lucky enough
to catch a glimpse
of one of the young bucks
that roam this kingdom
as for me… I’m waiting for him
the monster who runs these woods
I’ve watched him sense he was young
through the years, watching him grow
waiting till the time was right
Yet with age comes wisdom
he’s become clever
he has learned how to go unseen
So here I am
five days in
on this bridge I sit
waiting for him to arrive
we will dance a dance for the ages
I will prevail

Call me hopeless romantic or whatever you want
But your arms are where I rather stall.

I feel like I’m not so alone since I live in the middle of nowhere. I like being surrounded by many diversities of people looking at their different clothes, or hearing there language, or accent and also the beauty of being different. I like all the street venders. There are all different kinds of smells from African food, American food, and Chinese food ect. I like seeing people walk their dogs and sometimes their cats! And when you’re in the city there is so much happing like street performances, like fire swallowing, break dancing, singing, and people playing odd instruments from other countries. But I also like nature, like the sounds of birds, the crackling of brooks, and the trees blowing in the wind.
Kaleidescopic Seismograph
Submitted by somebody_else on Mon, 02/06/2012 - 12:47pmI'm often to be found more predominantly inside my own mind than anywhere else.
My drawings act as a seismograph for my internal quakes,
pieces of my mind snapping apart and the splitting lines
rock apart with them.
I am everything that I am not, and nothing
that I am. Alice
knew far more of herself than I, but I, at least,
still possess myself.
I will not shape myself into your molds.
I am nothing of clay or wood, I am icy stone.
I am the bottom of the glacier,
the base root of the tree,
the form from which the mold is made.
I am no delicate flower, fragile and helpless.
I am the oak-root, tying myself
into the Earth,
the reality,
the truth.
I am half-mad

twice-lost
four times a fool, but
never a fool in love,
never losing my mind, I was
born with half semi-insanity and grew to be
fully half-insane and this
is my gift.
You cannot drive me mad,
cannot make me grieve by
leaving me, cannot
kill my heart because,
don't you realize yet?
It was born broken.
So try to break me,
try to hurt me,
try to be crueller to me than
I am to myself and see
how successful you can be.

What Do You See When You Look At Me
Submitted by alifield on Fri, 02/03/2012 - 4:39pmWhat do you see when you look at me?
Do you see what I see?
The once bright eyes
darkend with hurt
the once cheerful smile
tight and weary
All you see is my surface
stopping at the pretty perplexion,
not looking deep into my eyes
to my heart
to see the story I am hiding
What do you see when you look at me?
Probably not what I see
I don't see the beauty
I see the horrible ugly past
like an open book
written across my face
would you want to see me if you could see what I see?
Would it scare you away,
like all the rest?
Or would you stay?
And help me through my struggle,
I need someone to help me keep my future straight,
I need a constant in my life,
someone who won't back away,
no matter how gruesome the tale I tell is
