Prom

Prom

By Sierra Hutt
Woodstock Union High School, Grade 10

Soft black heels
Night black tux
A blue, flowered dress
And a matching tie
A couple together
For over a year
Entering their prom
Arm in arm
Swaying to the music
Of their high school song

Summer Fish

Feet dangling
Into the cool
Pond water
Holding a fishing pole
During a sweet summer day
Reminiscing life
Under the sun
While my fishing pole bends
With the weight of a catch

Vermont Farms

Peeling yellow farmhouse dinner
Farmers-tanned arms
Resting against the round wooden table
Sweet potata’ charm
Old Vermont farmer
Does the early morning milking
At the crack of dawn
With springtime birds chirping
The simple life of a Vermont farm

The Last Time

Tiny bursts of light
Speckle the starry night
It was the last time I caught
A shining firefly
Softly glowing
Between my palms
A summer night
Balmy and warm
Was my last glimpse
Of the little lightening bugs
Blinking beneath the stars

Individuality

An individual dreams through a single mind
Thoughts of their own
One of a kind

Thoughts aren’t conjured
By those around
And future goals lay undisturbed

They don’t fake to fit in
Alter to the style
Or drink the dreaded followers vile

Faking doesn’t make it
When you strive for
Your own individuality

Ode to Hugs

Ode to Hugs

By Sierra Hutt
Woodstock Union High School, Grade 10

This an ode
to loving hugs
keeping us going,
letting us know,
silently speaking,
that we are loved
Hugs are warm and engulfing
a simple way to say
“I love you”
Thoughts go missing
for those few moments
when an embracing hug
is on your mind
Just like a crackling fire
warming up cold hands

Winter Wonderland

Freshly falling fluffs
Dance to the ground
As I make sweet, smiling angels
With spread arms
The flakes swirl to my lips
And I reminisce the sweet snow
In my winter wonderland
Of frozen tears

Mountains

Green Mountain State
Mountains are where I reside
Hues of blue and green are where my heart lies
We walk up to watch the sunset
Hands intertwined
Smiling eyes
Oranges, pinks, and fiery reds
All of yesterday's colors
Set behind my shades of blue
Walking away from the past
I look into those bright blue eyes
And realize my heart lies with the mountains

Everyday Magic

Everyday Magic

By Sierra Hutt
Woodstock Union High School, Grade 10

Uncontrollable giggles
Singing out loud
Dancing to the radio
Listening to the sound
Of a bubbling brook
The voice of a friend
Falling snowflakes
On your nose
Kayaking on
A late summer lake
The rustle of the leaves
Hands intertwine
The smell of baked cookies
The irreplaceable times
Of everyday magic

Highschool Lovers

High School Lovers

By Sierra Hutt
Woodstock Union High School, Grade 10

Their hands intertwine
Reminiscing the years
Young lovers from high school
Made it through all the tears

Their days are growing shorter
But their love will never fade
Their thoughts are on each other
As they wade through the days

Years of children,
Never appreciating each other
Until now when they realize
Their undeniable love for one another

Their hands intertwine
Reminiscing the years
Young lovers from high school
Made it through all the tears

Persuasion

Persuasion

By Sierra Hutt
Woodstock Union High School, Grade 10

Pretty please
I will stand up tall
I'll bat my eyelashes
Because I want it all

Don't say no
Say yes to me
Tell me now
Because I'm your baby.

I'll bat my eyelashes
Big brown eyes pointed at you
You'll say yes
I know you

I'm the perfect persuader
I've got it all planned out
You're going to give in

Expectations

I have a tendency to trust high expectations on every new person I meet. I always expect people to be optimistic, and laugh when they hear something funny. I always think everyone I meet are going to be generous, nice, and normal; and because I throw these expectations on people who may not have these characteristics, I am often let down.
