We Don't Need Kisses


If you could read her lips
her words would be mundane.
"You never put your hat on straight."
or
"You're too darn tall."
Her tone exasperated, perhaps.

But from here I can only see her eyes,
and they are smiling.

If you could read his mind
his thoughts would be routine.
She's always got to have things her way.
or
She's still got those nice eyes.

But from here I can see only his smile,
and it speaks volumes.

This is love in it's seniority.
It forgets the minute details.

My memory

The wind is soft and dry on my face. The grass, rustling, all around me, so familiar, so far away. Memories, I feel, coming in and out, a tractor, a noise. It's gone. Gone.

Nostalgia floods through the air
and she fidgets with his cap to suppress long lost tears.
He’s not going anywhere,
and neither is she
but fifty years ago,
they had no idea where fate would take them.
They settled on this field,
hand in hand
and all night they were clasped together,
cumbersomely letting go in the morning.
And fifty years later,
they spent the boundless night with the stars

Forever Here (Photo Prompt #2)

There we stood, hand in hand. George's rough, farm- punished hand gripping tight to mine, like a comfort, 'I won't be here forever, but I'm here now' , as we stared out onto the rolling sea of grain, like a vast world of golden light. The wind pulled my old, aging hair out of my dull, gray eyes, and I saw a single tear run down his sullen face.
