Green

New

Colors
Opening their eyes
Into that springy sunshine,
Everything is new
Not that dark dreary blue,
Cold washes away,
It stays at bay,
As spring arises
Just like new surprises

Green

Green is the color of the sun catcher in my window.
Green is the color of the prickly cactus that sits on my dresser.
Green is the color of my favorite shirt.
Green is the color of my comfy sweatshirt.
Green is the color of my soft, warm quilt.
Green is the color of the United States on my map, hanging on my wall.
Green is the color of the sticky pine needles that fall in the yard.
Green is the color of the fresh, dewy grass that the cows munch on.
Green is the color of St. Patrick’s Day, the day after my birthday.
Green is the color of ency.
Green is the color your face turns when you get sick.
Green is the color of the Green Mountains.
I love green.

Green

Sunlight streamed through the gaps between the crinkled branches. The hills overflowed with green grass swaying with serenity. A small girl with tear-stained cheeks sprawled on her back in the quiet shade the dying willow provided with its dark emerald leaves.

April laid there more often then not. The soft grass perfectly cushioned her tired back and left tiny smears on her flowy shirt. In the shade of the dilapidated tree, she was more than safe. She was alone.

From all those times when there was no way to spill out all the wrongness, she could escape. From the times she opened her mouth wide and screamed silently so that no one would scare, she could be gone. From every difference, worry, frustration in her life, she could break free.

The tree and the hills and the grass couldn’t heal her issues. Even if they could, April herself would not be healed. But for then, it was enough for her to lay and feel the green.

Green is a special color.
When I see green, I can almost smell the green grass.
I can see the reflection of the green grass in my swimming pool.
It seems that every day that I look at the green grass,
it is growing.

When I go out for a nice car ride,
I can see all the great, green mountains.
of Vermont.

One Clover

I walk mindlessly into a sea of green
My mind fixed on one thing: four
I lay down in the field
Slowly my fingers move from clover to clover, counting slowly
My hands pause over each one, hopeful of a match
Disappointed, I turn a begin in a new spot
Still searching, my hands graze the sea of green
I snap back to reality, I've found it
I pluck the one lone clover with four petals Read more »

Green Eyes

I look into his eyes
I see life,
I see my smile reflected in his eyes
Every time I see his face.
When I see his eyes I see a world
Of happiness
And him and I.
In those simple eyes
I see us standing together
A stretch of afternoon light on the horizon
And a small exchange on the lips.
I look into his eyes;
His green, gorgeous eyes
And I see the start of something new, Read more »

Green

By Sara Archie
Lebanon High School, Grade 12

It rolls around in my purse
I have to shuffle through the loose change
Through my books
My cell phone
My lip gloss
My CD player
My college paperwork—
(Jeesh, how much crud do I have in here?)
To find the goods:
Green.

I try to smile
But I know
It’ll be all gone after
My jacked up college tuition sucks it into the void.

But for now…
Shopping spree anyone?

GREEN

Green

By Audrey Picut
Deerfield Valley Elementary School, Grade 4

When I think of green, I hear the greenish wild waves crashing down on the shore, green spray flying everywhere. When I think of green, I feel the green seaweed beneath my feet, pulling me down, beneath the shining surface. When I think of green, I see the bright green leaves on the big, bushy apple tree in the music teacher's garden, swaying in the breeze. When I think of green, I taste the delicious green tea ice cream on my lips, traveling slowly down, into the depths of my stomach.
And when I think of green, I think of the small green peas cooking on the stove right now-my dinner.
And that is what I think of green.

Green is clean
Green is light
Green is very very bright!
Green is spring
Green is grass
Green is very very vast!
Green is energy
Green is power
Green is as pretty as a flower!
Green is nice
Green is kind
Green is also easy to find!
Green is wet
Green is dry
Green is very, very shy!
Green is gentle
Green is strong
A world without green would be wrong!

Green
To me that means spring
The snow is melting
The sap is running
Trees budding
Flowers blooming
Deer eating
Turkeys gobbling
Gears shifting
Weather warming
Grass growing
Water splashing
Sun shining
Kids playing
Wind blowing
Spring slides into summer
Winter is just a distant bummer

Green

On a winter’s day, I laid on my back in the snow
Chilled to the bone
Buried, almost, in frozen fluff
Staring up at the all-encompassing blue sky
The white clouds floating by
And I wonder,
Where’s the green?
My beloved green
Green grass
That sheltering canopy of leaves
And the warm heat of summer
The caress of the the blades of grass
Against my bare arms as I dream Read more »

Green Fields

Look out over those tranquil and vast fields.
I never thought there could be such a green.
Such a pretty sight and all that it yields.
Such a pretty sight, like nothing I've seen.

The different hues that the shadows can cast,
Just like looking out into the blue sea.
Out in the middle of nowhere, so vast.
Sprawling out, everything I wish to be. Read more »

Snapshots

By Erin Maguire
Essex High School, Grade 9

Green is;
dangling before me
seducing my senses into
a controlled confusion of
love and loss, blending
our features until I can't
find the real me or the right
you and green is;
an elegy. Of
summer, of granny apple
pies and fractured Polaroids
rescued from the neighbor's
soft lawn on the
other side of our fence, where
the grass always seemed
sweeter until we got there and
discovered green is;
relative.

Green is;
the backyard in July
and waves teasing the tips
of our toes while we
sucked Popsicles in the
sun and asked big questions about
the little intricacies of
our world and watched the
dogs play under the
swing set. Back then
green was;
applesauce and cinnamon
during the last summer
we whirled between the white
birch trees and the
pines that shielded us, under
a rich emerald canopy, from
harsh realities and false
hope. Green used to be;
everything and

Green

The sad face
Hastily
Drawn on my pinkie
With a green
Marker
Slowly fades
And so
Perfectly
Reflects my
Soul.
I never meant
To represent
My feelings
The way I
Would've in
Kindergarten
But it's more
Than I could've
Ever spoken.

The Bomb has Fallen

The Bomb has Fallen

Rochester High School, Grade 9

Flashes in the distance, blind me
Bright shades of green race in streaks.
It started with a stroke of orange
And forever that’s all I will see.

Green

By Melissa Werle
Woodstock Union High School, Grade 10

Green looks like a slippery frog
Climbing through the muddy leaves
It feels like a prickly cactus
Or the hard, bumpy shell of a slow turtle
It tastes like a bitter, oily olive
Tangy and strong
Smell the sharp scent of pines
Or the citrus-y burst of a lime.
Green is the crawling ivy on old houses
And the sparkle of an emerald
It sounds like the hiss of a snake
The crunch of an apple being bitten

A Room with a View

As I gaze into the green field yonder
I begin to wonder
Why we are forever left to,
wander.

And as the field fills with gentle snow
I know that it will slowly lose its gentle glow
And freeze the green grasses gentle,
flow.

O why are we bound to the ebb and tide of the season
Left numb by dense forests of reason
Think once and you are charged with,
treason. Read more »

My Green

My Green
By Peyton Wilson
Vermont Academy, Grade 9
Green is the start: Ready set go!
The color of beginning, right?
Green is the color of a blooming spring
And of days that are long and bright.
It’s the color of luck – and of winning
Money! Mom’s new plants! A yard!
Green is the color of easy going
And a life that isn’t hard.
Green is my color; the nice fuzzy hat
That was made for me long ago.
Green was the color of happiness
And of a home 'worthy' to show.
Now green is the color of the park
At which I spend a lot of time.
Green was the color of your last
Happy birthday sign.
Now that I think, green was the color
Of a few ‘sorry’ cards sent my way.
Green was the color of your birth;
Isn’t it coming this May?
And now, for me, green is the color
Of a memory I wish to save.
It’s the color of the grass that grows
Tall above her grave
Green is the color of her soul;
Has it yet flown into the skies? Read more »

The Color Green

That’s the big thing today; the color green.
Well, you got the idea. You look and see.
Lots of symbolism, what does it mean?
Unless you’re color blind, you’ll find some quickly.

It is used as the color of the school.
During school sports, I see it every day.
Running track and field races, it’s real cool.
I am a green blur, get out of my way. Read more »

Green is a color.
The color of stuff.
Like peas and bicycles
And other stuff.

Green is like forests
Forests with trees.
Forests have flowers.
They also have trees.

The color of moss
The color of grass
The color of pesto sauce
The color of grass

Some stuff is not green
Like dogs and boots
Also old lettuce.
Boots aren’t green either (except when they are green) Read more »

When You Hear the Word Green...

When You Hear the Word Green . . .

By Gianna Carchia
Woodstock Union High School, Grade 10

When you hear the word green
Think of the Earth
Of how nothing you buy
Will compare to its worth

When you hear the word green
Think of the world
Of how much it has gone through
Of how long it has twirled

When you hear the word green
Think not of envy or wealth
Instead, do consider the Earth’s fragile health

Choose to respect the Earth
Want to keep it green
Decide to keep it safe
And resolve to keep it clean

Green All 'Round

Green to me is starting anew, of spring. Spring brings lots of green, vibrant against the white of winter still in my mind. With spring comes the birds, whose songs a quite pleasant to wake up to on a bright sunny day. But with the birds are the bugs, little flying pains that sneak up on me. They buzz around my head until I smack myself trying to swat them away. Read more »

Green for Granted

I try to open my eyes wide, but all I can do is squint. The sun shines so bright and I take it all in. The smell of snow disappears; its white color does, too. The air is warmer; my skin soaks up the rays of the warm sun. I walk along the road, my feet occasionally getting stuck in the mud. The mud sticks to my back as I run down away from the mud and into the green. Read more »

Green is like the key to the world.
With green we have wonderful days when the morning sun is shining and you're having a picnic on the luscious, green grass.
We have some green vegetables and apparently green vegetables are good for you.
We have nice green mountains.
We also have green plants.
We have green seaweed which is also used for sushi. Read more »

There are too many green things in the world, though not enough are living; there are the leaves, the grass, the fruit, and many others. They can be found almost anywhere also. Golf courses are the home of greens, as are forests and gardens. Green is in the stains received from playing soccer, or any other physical sport on grass. Read more »
