The Prom
Prom Life
Submitted by Guest on June 16, 2008 - 13:47.Prom is just a dance. It is just a dance with fancy dresses waving around the dance floor, everyone acting like they are Cinderella for a night. Well I, my friend, am too a Cinderella. I am a Cinderella without the happily ever after, or the handsome prince. I am the never ending Cinderella story, but don’t feel sorry for me, for I am not the only one. There are plenty of people out there just like me. Well here is my advice to you all; don’t give up, for all you know the next frog you kiss could be that prince.

Soft black heels
Night black tux
A blue, flowered dress
And a matching tie
A couple together
For over a year
Entering their prom
Arm in arm
Swaying to the music
Of their high school song

Jitters before
Who to ask?
Will they say yes?
Flip-flops in their tummies.
Dresses, dresses!
Pink, purple, blue, yellow.
Make sure everything’s perfect!
Shoes, flowers, jewels.
Where will we go before, after?
Bright lights everywhere
Waiting for darkness
Then they can dance.
Ready to go now!
Dark limos for glamour.
Feeling so special, so important
Ready for the night.
Who Will it be?

Prom night, the perfect night
I planned down to the "T"
The center of attention
Everyone focused on me
Sparkling dress
Jewelry in matching hues
Limo and friends
Pedicured feet in designer shoes
Only one thing missing…
Who will be my date?
Everyone’s taken
Is it too late?
But luckily for me,
My dream date is free
But will I have the courage
Or end up with Humphrey?
Finally here’s my moment
I approach him in the hall
He looks so gosh darn fine
Oh, that wonderful Paul
But then the worst thing happens
My footing slips
And I tumble and collide
Into Paul’s perfect hip
So now here I am at the prom
In my perfect gown
It's actually not so bad…
That Humphrey sure can get down

Cameras flashing, you feel like a celebrity
Tonight it’s all about you
One last picture, says your mother
You smile and brush a piece of hair out of your face
The boy on your arm sneaks in a kiss
Memories you’ll never forget
A night of simple pleasure
Fabulous, glamorous, prom

When I first entered high school I didn’t really know who or how I was going to ask someone to the prom. When I asked people they said that they were going with a group of people. I didn’t really want to go with a group of people so I decided to ask an upperclassman from Spaulding. At this time she was a junior and I was a freshman. I was kind of nervous but I knew her and that made everything a lot easier. So my advice for freshman in asking someone to be their prom date is just be yourself. Girls don’t like fake guys. And when you get to the prom, be outgoing and get out there and dance. Girls also love guys who aren’t afraid to dance and have a good time. If you don’t do this, you might find your date dancing with someone else.

How to Ask Someone to the Prom: A 4th Grader's Perspective

If you want to ask someone to the prom this is how I would do it: I would invite the person I want to my house to play video games and make them think I'm going to ask them. Then I would have my best friend dress up like a girl and make it look like I was going to ask them instead. Then I would make the person I really want to ask feel like I don’t like them. They would say, ”I thought you were going to ask me."
I would say, “well if you want to go with me that bad, will you go with me?” Then my friend would throw a fit just for the effect.

Time is running short!
How will I ever find it?
Every store is bare
Prom is just around the corner!
Everyone has one except me…
Running from store to store,
Finally I come upon a treasure!
Elegant and unique
Colors like the setting sun
Taffeta and silk.
Drapes over me, fitting to a tee
Reminiscent of spring’s first bloom
Everyone’s looking at me
Sashaying across the dance floor
Sure I found the perfect dress!

Schools colors, of course.
Red, white and maybe--if I am feeling kind of dark--black.
Red, rosy, roses on the side
With some innocent white roses mixed in.
Little notes with arrows pointing my way
And a pinch of my perfume
To let her know it is me.
As she gets closer, green vines and pink tulips mix together
Beneath her feet, she looks up to see balloons
And a sign that says, “Will you go to the prom with me?”
Written with my horrible, chicken scratch handwriting.
With a big smile on her face,
She says, “This is going to be the best prom ever!”

So, here I am.
Two weeks until prom, and dateless. Very, very dateless. The world has clouded over
for me. All talk is of the prom, all announcements are about the prom, all the posters on the
walls and the telephone conversations: PROM. And you know what? Every other girl
seems to have a date! Why me? I am a perfectly able dancer, I have mildly styleable
hair, and I’m sure I could find a dress that would flatter me. But do I have need to
prove any of those things? NO. While one might argue that you needn’t have a date to
attend the annual junior/senior prom, the dateless attendee would reply that after
dozens of pitiful glances cast in their direction, and after standing near the table piled
with cheese and crackers making small talk with your English teacher who’s
chaperoning, a date is absolutely necessary.
