Message in bottle
Submitted by smith.ariel101 on Fri, 02/01/2013 - 10:51amI went for a early morning walk on the beach,I wanted to get there before anyone else got the good shells. As I was walking down the long stretch of sand and hotels I saw something in the sand,it was rather shiny and small I thought it may have been a bottle. It was enogh to get my attention,I walked or ran to it and sure enough it was a bottle with a message in it. Even though the ink writing had smeered you coulld still make out what it said if you were really trying. It said,it was set i the water from Hawaii,it also said to contact the person back, and I did so. It was hard for me to write not knowing the person,I did it anyways. I never recieved a message back from the person, which makes me think, did it ever make it there?

Elephant Genie
Submitted by pianolady on Thu, 01/24/2013 - 3:49pmYou're in Maine, walking on the ocean shore, picking up shells and whatever else you can find. Urchins, starfish, sea glass. You find a bottle that probably will turn into sea glass if you leave it. But you want it for yourself. You want it really, really badly. What do you do? I know what I did. I picked it up. Big mistake. It explodes. You know the traditional old genie story, where the genie comes out of a bottle or a lamp or whatever. That's what happens here. Except the genie is a elephant. Who speaks English. It says "You are not getting any wishes. I'm sick and tired of people asking me for wishes. I'm just a poor old elephant. Where am I supposed to get you wishes?" "I never asked for wishes," you tell him, taken aback. "I was just looking for sea glass, and your bottle there was a fine piece, and I wanted it. "Humans want everything," it says irritably. "I can't even have an old bottle to myself. You must take it away forever." "Sorry," you mutter, and look away. "Sorry, my trunk. You want ti just as much as ever. You're just being polite. I appreciate it." it says, and walks away down the beach.

Heart of Sand
Submitted by Lexie on Fri, 09/21/2012 - 2:41amAs the waves come closer to the shore
I can hear the ocean roar
Still I sit on the damp sandy beach
Wondering what lessons life still has to teach
For my love I draw a heart
Who seems to be a world apart
But here I sit, feeling alone
While you're in another time zone
Looking out to the sea, I hope and pray
This heart I drew doesn't get washed away
So into the heart I place seashells
A place forever our love to dwell
Soon to be home to see you again
But for now, this sandy heart is my friend

Moving Past These Scars
Submitted by artisticthoughts on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 1:35pmFlight
Submitted by Camb9 on Sun, 03/20/2011 - 9:34pmSometimes, I feel like taking off
And going to a beach like the summer,
So nice and warm. During the scorching day,
I feel the comfort of the cool waves,
So far unlike the bitter cool of winter.
Yet the scorching day is comforting,
As it allows me to appreciate the frost.
The waves cool yet soothing
And the gentle breeze blowing, Read more »
The artist's heart
Submitted by Pug on Wed, 03/09/2011 - 8:49pmI sit by the seashore,
with pen and paper in my hand.
I watch as the bright orange sun slowly melts into the night.
I inhale the salty sea breeze,
which feels heavenly in my weak lungs.
My paper remains blank.
Then I remember every insult,
remark,
and lie ever made about me.
I remember ever lost,
broken,
or false love I ever had.
Every time my heart was broken or lied to.
Saltwater Therapy
Submitted by tangerinesunset on Wed, 05/19/2010 - 9:22pmSaltwater therapy
infused my soul with
curiosity to imagine again,
and sent me drifting upwards
in a watery dome,
where light
and darkness
couldn't be distinguished.
My tired toes
cautiously reached out
to calm the raging foam's
cantankerous wrath,
only to be purified
by racing ivory bliss.
My flying wisps of hair
launched themselves into
an abyss of seaweed
and sunshine,
harassed by the scent,
but welcomed by the radiance.
The timeless breeze
formed a choir
with nearby dune grasses,
as waves sprinted up the shore,
escaping from the whispering sea. Read more »

Summer of the Tidalwave
Submitted by tangerinesunset on Mon, 05/17/2010 - 3:56pmReoccurring ripples
Playfully crawl up
The glass-smooth shore,
Briefly teasing the tender earth
With a phrase of foam,
Then soaking away,
Shy like a child
On the first day of kindergarten
Slipping down into a colony of waves
Hiding from the daunting dune
Contently watching another one try
To tackle the beast of land,
Without success, too
But a watery revolution builds
Miles away
In the eternal horizon
Of ocean and sky
The promising distance
Soon becomes
Within swim-area fury,
It mounts the wind
And collects all force,
Riding a soul of saltwater bravery Read more »
Nightmare in the Bay
Submitted by alexisoccer on Thu, 04/15/2010 - 1:19pmFree in zero gravity
Floating happily
Hair swaying all about
Ignoring angry shouts
A muscle arm pulls
As strong as a bull
I scream and pout
But the rushing waves
Mute me
Bubbles rise
With each panicked cry-
The life shrinks away
In the nightmare of the bay
My Favorite Things
Submitted by thesixthkid on Wed, 03/18/2009 - 11:14amWater lapping on a beach,
sun shining down on me,
wind rushing through the trees,
walking down a beach in summertime.
The calmness moving through me,
creating a peacefulness
in my mind.
Sunlight gives way
to sunset,
colors changing,
birds are singing
the song of summer.
Pebbles crunching
beneath my feet,
rocks providing
a cool place to sit,
and watch
the changing horizon.
The last of the colors
disappear beyond
the horizon.
Midnight blue
takes over the sky.
Stars appear
shining overhead.
Wind still blows
through the trees,
creating a peacefulness
and happiness
inside me.

The Happiness of Spring
Submitted by thesixthkid on Tue, 03/17/2009 - 8:27pmPushing off,
and putting my feet on the pedals
for the first time this year.
Gliding down the hill,
wheels spinning,
hair flying.
The wind flowing over me.
Weaving through trails of cold air,
making my way to the beach.
When I stop,
I take in the colors,
the sounds,
the sights.
The view of the
sun starting to set.
Bird calls,
wind whistling in the trees,
the sounds of Spring.
As the sun sets,
The wind sounds as if it's dancing.
Creating pathways through the air,
just waiting for someone
to take a ride.
2 in 1 poem
Submitted by Schila on Tue, 03/03/2009 - 9:24pmThis idea randomly popped into my head this morning, and I decided to follow through. My idea was to take two poems, combine them into one, and make every other line the other poem. Then somewhere near the end they would intertwine, and become one.
As the westerly winds
did blow,
I found myself
walking farther,
and farther away
from home.
The blizzard was
Captivating.
I was inside it!
Trillions of little
snowflakes,
violently twirling,
twisting,
jumping
on the wind.
Sunset Over Water
Submitted by kayb on Sat, 12/13/2008 - 3:53pmI feel the warm sand squish under my feet. Water washes over them as I walk. I stop and look out over the huge ocean. The waves pile on top of each other, sinking back into the water, only to be covered again. The sun is setting now. Pinks and purples, oranges and blues color the sky. I stop and bury my feet in the sand, just watching as the sun sinks lower into the water, almost completely immersed now. Then quickly it slips below the surface, and I see a flash of green. I close my eyes, feeling the warm summer wind on my face. A millennium passes. Quietly I turn back home.

Letters on the beach

Again
Again
Every day
the same five
letter
are traced into
the sand
across the beach
I'm asked what they mean
But I can't say
at least exactly
they confuse me
those letters

Fading to White
Submitted by Artair on Sun, 01/27/2008 - 12:32amThe beach lay still, a silver streak of moonlight is all that quivers, in a life that many question exists. The stars hang low, blinking, beckoning, is they want to come down to us and share knowledge of an ancient world. The water is bluish, yet green, and can be seen through, all the way to a dark dreary depth. People fear this death, as Dante did when he took his walk through time and space. Read more »
Empty Shores
Submitted by rebecca_v on Sun, 10/14/2007 - 2:28pmI walk
Alone
The sand
Creeping between
The cracks of my toes
Gritty
But welcome
In my solitude.
I watch
The waves
As they crash
Against rocks
Stained dark
With water
And muck.
The waves
Break
Sending white foam
Scattering out
And I picture you
Walking away
Into the froth.
I walk along
In the wet sand
Feet sinking
Into footprints.
Two feet
