14. Procrastination. If you had more time, you’d be able to put it off longer. What do you put off to the last moment? Why? Tell a story about how you just barely got something done in time – or didn’t.

Waiting

Waiting

By Alicia Waite
Rochester High School, Grade 9

Time ticks slow,
But sometimes it feels like it’s on a steady flow,
People always in a rush,
Sometimes yelling, as if to say “mush"

One day you are little,
Sitting there listening to your grandpa’s fiddle,
The next you day you are old,
Moving things into the house marked with sold.

Television, movies, and books,
Categorizes time with some great hooks,
But people really don’t fully understand how wonderful time can be,
I just wish everyone could see…

Watching the clock go,
Minutes, seconds, hours, they all show,
But with a simple blink, our biggest fear,
Time would simply disappear…

We are so impatient,
Standing in lines seems to make us ancient
But if we all take a step back,
And realize that in life things don’t always fit into a perfect stack,

Maybe if we’d relaxed and listened to fait,
Everything would get easier, if only we would wait.

Losing Weight

Losing Weight

By Alicia Waite
Rochester High School, Grade 9

Fat, skinny and in between,
No matter what people can be mean,
It makes you wonder and it makes you think,
Sometimes it takes you to the brink,

Television newspapers and magazines,
People always trying to fit between the scenes,
Never feeling good enough,
But always acting tough.

Celebrities make it seem too easy,
But they are really oh so cheesy,
With their plastic surgery and liposuction,
Without these so-called necessities they could not function,

Physical features can’t always be read,
You have to look deeper instead,
Look past the illusion and find your heart,
Think things through before you start,
Because loosing weight can be great,
But going to far will tempt fate.

Just remember you are who you are,
And be careful not to take it too far,
Because celebrities have no problem going under the knife,
But for us, there is so much more to life.

In My Closet

In My Closet
By Alicia Waite

In my closet,
Stacked so tall,
Clothes of many colors,
They all came from the mall

Many shoes
Socks galore,
Shirts in blues,
Pants that lye of the floor
Tank tops,
From different shops

Tons of purses,
Skirts of many lengths,
Tights that sparkle,
Sunglass to match,
All of my hats,
Too many to count.

My parents say I have enough,

Dearest Uncle

Dearest Uncle
By Alicia Waite

Dearest Uncle and good friend,
Hunting season is approaching,
I’m dreading it the most
Usually this time of year brings happiness, excitement and joy,
Yet this year where excitement once was comes sadness and pain,
Because we know you won’t be here to share in this time,
We all put on a good face,
