sledding
the sledding day
Submitted by pamcyr on Wed, 01/13/2010 - 11:17amThe sledding day
A thin layer of snow rests like a blanket on the cold ground. Little stalks of green poke through rather timidly. It is the first day that the snow has stayed on the ground this season. Outside everything is silent. All except for one 10-year-old’s footsteps on the gravel and the sled being dragged behind her. I am that 10-year-old. Up the mountain I go. (Although it’s really just a small hill.) And then I jump on the sled and down I go! Wheeeeee! I have done my first sledding of the season and it was fun!

Winter Tales
Submitted by Aurelie on Fri, 11/13/2009 - 3:35pmTo me I think winter is pretty fun because you get to miss school and you get to spend time with family and friends. One of the winter memories that I remember the most was when I was four years old at one of my friend’s birthday parties. When I got there, I put on my winter clothes and then we went outside to go sledding. As soon as we got outside I smelled was cow manure (she lives on a farm). After a while I sort of forgot about it and all I could smell was the cold breeze of winter. When it was my turn to sled I went so fast that I went under her fence and landed underneath a cow! Vermont
Vermont equals winter and brings out the child in all of us. In the winter there are many things we can do in here. We can make forts, snow angels, snowmen and snow ball fights, and sledding. Winter also provides jobs such as shoveling porches, walkways, driveways and some times roofs. Vermont is a peaceful place where in the winter there are many children sledding down mountains, skiing, and snowboarding in the country side of Vermont there is a nice place that I go to when I hang out with my family, where the snow isn’t muddy in the roads and there is a fresh powder of snow.
We would go snowmobiling, sledding, snowboarding and we would have snowball fights against each other. In the end there was never a winner because we would go inside let our hats, gloves, mittens, socks, and ski pants dry while drinking hot chocolate. Read more »
Sledding
Submitted by jazzieg on Mon, 10/27/2008 - 2:21pm Winter tales
In the winter it’s some what cool
But when it snow it makes the road very slippery
In the winter it is fun for kids so they could sled and for
Adults it is not because we have to drive in the car or truck
When it’s snowing or sleeting out but that don’t stop the vehicles
From going over off the road and getting hurt.
In the future of sledding was when I was younger I was excited
To go every time it was very fun but when I was about 11 years old
My mom and the rest of my family went to Bradford to sled
I went down a hill with an inner tube and the bottom
Has a lake type river and it was of course froze
And when I started going down I ended up
Getting really hurt but my family
Though it was funny but Read more »
Sledding
Submitted by mgilbert on Mon, 12/17/2007 - 6:49pmWalking through the snow
Puffs of white flying
With every step taken.
Dog comes running
Bounding with endless energy
Over the top of the snow banks.
Finally reaching the hill
Where you make a path
For sledding.
Running to get a good start,
Flying down the hill,
And hitting a snowbank.
The sled is far away
As you’ve flopped off while it kept going Read more »
Sledding
Submitted by mgilbert on Tue, 12/11/2007 - 4:56pmIn my backyard
My sister, friends and I
Fly down the hill
Only a thin sheet of plastic
Separating us
From the snow crystals
Flying by beneath us.
Each winter
During the first snow storm
This is the scene
That dominates our
Backyard.
From the time we were young
We’ve spent hours
Of cold winter days,
And hours
Of humid summer weather Read more »
