The Broken Boat

Old Wooden Boat

Boat
a playground memory
By Emily Lalumiere

Old wooden boat
Gaps in your side
Big enough for a bird
To fly through

A flag pole through
Your middle a bridge
Linking your port
and starboard

Sailing on a
Sea of sand
take me away!

Boat Ride

I was sitting on the front of the boat as we sped across the lake, the warm sun melting the drops of water that were left on my body from tubing. The wind ferociously blew my hair in every direction, blew into my eyes along with water spray and the sharp summer sun rays, forcing me to squint.

The water was so calm and the boat was so loud that we didn't have to say anything. But if we did, I knew it would be just as comforting as this peacefulness. Girl talk and giggles and smiles and pictures. Read more »

Rowing with Mom

On the lake,
In a row boat,
With my mom,
Floating like buoys.
We stop to look around,
See an island,
Then row again.
It starts to rain,
Drops plop down from the sky
Into the water.
As the island approaches,
We hit a sand bank,
Together,
We look for the heavy anchor
And the rope and tie it to the boat.
A bird screeches loudly,
We are soaked through,
Like a fish,
Leaving the boat,
We splash onto the grassy, tree covered island.
The grass is taller than me.
We see a cave and hear a growling sound,
Then, rush to the boat in fright!
Splash!
Our feet hit the water, again!
My mom pulls up the anchor with a tug,
And we paddle together to land.
Reaching the bobbing dock,
We get out and go back home
To change our soggy clothes.

Memoir to Borimir

Memoir to Borimir

Of the archer's cruel bow,
And the everlasting foe
Came the great blow of horn,
Heartfelt grief was then born

In an elve-crafted boat,
His body afloat,
Branded a traitor,
But died a defender.

My Boat

My name is Ethan Johnson I am now 17 years old. I have known one of my best friends for a long time and ever since I have known him his dad had an old aluminum boat parked at the edge of his lawn covered in leaves and moss. As far as he can remember it had been there for 15 years and it hadn’t been touched. It was never covered so it was full of 15 years of maple leaves, dirt, and any thing that hade made its way into the boat. I had half joked with him a cupule of times about how much he wonted for it but he never took me serious. One day I asked him again about it and out of the blue he told me if I wonted it that I could have it. I was so excited that day me and my friend went out dragged it out of the woods and started to shovel. I don’t know how long it took us to clean out all of the crap that had accumulated in that boat but it was hours of pressure washing and scooping. Read more »

Falling Off A Boat

One day, in summer of 2007, on Lake Champlain, I was on my friend Emily’s boat. We had just gone tubing, and were now taking a swim in the lake. The boat was anchored and all four of us- Emily, her dad, my dad, and I- were jumping off the boat and into the water, ignoring the metal ladder that we could have climbed down on. Read more »
