Wings
Submitted by webs on Thu, 12/20/2012 - 1:42am
when I woke up I had wings
it began with a great prickling sensation, a sensation I have since associated with all major change
a prickling between the shoulder blades
then an itching
and finally the great, black protuberances that reached out behind me to the sky
I couldn't control them, they yearned only for the sky and the wind and the glow of the moon on black feathers
there is a certain warmth in it, that slight lightening of the feathers
and I can see that they are not really black
more a deep purple
what is the difference really, between black and purple, but that black takes all light from the air and purple, purple gives back that tiny bit of color, so little that you can't even tell
so little that it never gets credit for giving back to the sky
but in that beautiful purple I see hope

Two Ways of Flying
Submitted by Vazrtre on Sat, 04/21/2012 - 9:57pmHe strives for flight
Arms extended, fingers spread
Legs locked together
Toes pushing up
His wings beg for the wind
Chest open, nose upturned
Arrogant,
Thinking he alone,
Can master flight
She knows the air.
Knows it like her own name.
Wings cupped to descend
Hair brushed delicately aside
Her slender feet touch gently down
Shy and graceful
She took to the wind
As one born to it

The Wings on My Shirt
Submitted by DarkDecember on Wed, 12/14/2011 - 8:22pmI have wings on the back of my shirt
They remind me of angel wings
They're the kind of wings
I'd tattoo on my back
If I didn't want to act
And wasn't worried about
The repercussions of an angel wings tattoo
Sometimes when I wear the shirt
I kid myself that I can feel the wings on my back
Would I fly?
What would I do
If I did fly?
I'm a bit of a dork
So I'd probably hover high over my neighborhood Read more »

Escape
Submitted by DarkDecember on Mon, 06/07/2010 - 9:34amIt’s roughly midnight. I get out of bed and pull on a sleeveless shirt and a pair of jeans and I head out.
I walk up my street to a long grassy field. I stand at the edge of the field and stare out at it. It rained earlier. The rain glistens on the grass in the moonlight.
I just stand at the edge of the field for a moment, listening to the wind tickle the leaves and feeling it toss my hair. I close my eyes, just letting my muscles relax.
Then I open my eyes, and I start to run. Read more »
Wings
Submitted by Shira on Thu, 04/29/2010 - 10:17amWith the wild rush of wind
I open my wings.
The world is before me,
A great carpet of green
Spread at the base of the mountain cliff.
Blue sky above me beckons
Luring me into the open firmament.
A shout of savage joy
Tears from my throat
As I hurl myself forward.
For a moment the earth pulls me down,
But I snap my wings
And they carry me off
On the warm currents of air.
Nothing binds me.
Nothing inhibits this miracle of flight.
Wind-drawn tears stream
Into my tangled hair.
Ecstasy is etched into my features.
A suddenly sickening feeling Read more »
Doesn't Care
Submitted by hedgehogboy5 on Tue, 11/10/2009 - 9:52pmhe stands
on the rooftop
his mind
thinks of failure
his mind
thinks of exile
his heart
does not care
his heart
beats quite quickly
his eyes
see the people
his eyes
do not care
they stare
scared up at him
he stands
on the roof’s edge
his ears
hear them yelling
his ears
do not care
his arms
pull off his coat
his legs
begin to bend
his legs
spring him upward
his body
soars off the edge
the crowd
gasps and screams
his wings
unfold for him
his wings
spread out and flap
his body
soars above them
the crowd
shrieks and screams
his heart
does not care Read more »
Wings
Submitted by booklover on Mon, 03/16/2009 - 9:10pmWho says that humans can't fly?
Even if they're invisible,
We do have wings.
I'm not letting disbelief keep me
Firmly plastered to the ground.
I want to soar.

For My Mother
Submitted by maddy on Tue, 03/04/2008 - 12:37amI jump. My arms spread wide as I let the wind beat against me, my hair flying out behind me as I dive, plummeting towards the river below me. I try to open my wings to fly but they are stuck I twist in the air trying to stop. I break the surface of the water as I plunge to the bottom, my legs twist around as I try to right my self but the current of the river is to strong. Read more »

Angel?
Submitted by imagine on Fri, 02/08/2008 - 10:48pmHe stood backstage,
the snowy feathers attached
to his shoulders and
blending smoothly into his
white cotton
button down shirt, and
his shoulder length hair
fell around his
smooth face
in slow waves like
dirt and bark and
sweet Earth.
His large eyes stared
straight ahead,
unblinking, and
the shadows flew
across his somber face, and
for a second I forgot
that the wings were only
part of his costume.
