Captain Goldsash's Treasure

“Finally! We’re there!” exclaimed Riley after their long journey.
You see, the three adventurers were off to explore an island they had discovered while fishing. Just as they had spotted the island, they saw an eagle emerge from a dive in the water, so it seemed fitting to call it Eagle Island. Then and there they decided to explore it, but first they needed to get there. They spent weeks making and perfecting a raft to sail out onto the island. Finally it was done and they had completed their journey.
“I’m exhausted,” Jared sighed.
“That was longer than I’d expected,” stated Shale, who was not one to complain.
“Well we can rest later… Let’s explore!” Riley shouted as she dashed down the beach.
“There she goes again,” Jared sighed, trudging after her.
“Wait up!” shouted Shale, catching up with Jared.

Yasdnil opened the big brass doors of her new middle school. Not only did Yasdnil have the weirdest name ever, but she had a pretty unique sense of fashion. She had tie-dyed hi-top socks up to her knees with a matching mini skirt, faded from her wearing it so much, and coated with grass stains. She had on a neon red and yellow shall with a white, frilly button-up shirt under it. Looking around, she knew that her life was ruined.
As kids passed her she could hear whispers and she could only assume they were about her. “I can do this,” she thought, “sticks and stones will break my bones, but…”
She was cut off when she ran right into a boy about her age with frizzy red hair and wide-rimmed glasses. Yasdnil fell to the floor and so did the boy.
“Hey look, the losers are taking a trip together!” taunted a voice somewhere out in the crowd. Roaring laughter was heard all around.

Grandpa
“What?!”
“No!”
“How?!”
“When!?”
Those were my words
When my grandpa had a
Heart attack
On his way down to
South Carolina
His back hurt,
His chest hurt,
His neck hurt,
He stayed at the
Hospital for 3 days
And for 3 nights
Then he came home
And he needed to rest
He did
His back rested
His chest rested
His neck rested
Then he felt
All better
Grammie's Ring

By Melina Myers
Ferrisburgh Central School, Grade 3
My Grammie has a purple ring
A lovely ring
My Grammie has a ring
With a blue birthstone
That we share
We went to see her
In the hospital
She looked up at me
And asked in a soft voice
A weak voice
If I wanted her ring
I said, “No”
Then she said,
“I’ll save this ring for you”
Then I gave her a hug
And kiss
And we left the hospital
And dad said,
“She wanted you
To have that ring
So you’ll remember her
Forever.”

White hair
Pony tailed hair
Straight hair
I hope I’ll be as pretty as her
She turns off the wire fence
The shocking fence
A thin fence
A silver fence
Around the garden so I won’t get hurt
We are going to make a pie
A delicious pie
A homemade pie
A yummy pie
The one I will make with my grammy
When I see her I feel love
My legs feel love
My stomach feels love
My heart feels love
I love my grammy
Papa
Submitted by amyd121 on May 7, 2008 - 09:49.Papa showed me a photo
Of himself
In a white uniform
He was marching
With his gun
And other men
And I began
To imagine
Papa in the front yard
With his gun
That has a sword on it
That he had when he was a marine
He shoots the gun
BANG!
O no! Here comes Minnie,
My grandma,
And she is mad at Papa
“Run!” he yells to me
And I run so fast
My shoe almost falls off
I run all the way
To the back yard
After Minnie is gone
I run back
And he shoots away at a target
And we didn’t get in trouble
Again.

I eat stems, buds and roots too.

Grandma's Lawn Chair

O old lawn chair
Sitting in the backyard
Full of my grandma’s seat
You have an indent where you
Have been sat in so many times
Your green stripes are beginning to fade
Like my grandma’s energy.
Though, you are still trustworthy enough
To hold such an important person’s
behind.

Asleep in a meadow
A horse lies down
In the sun
A soft breeze
Rustles her mane
A rabbit hops
Through the green grass
The horse awakens
Perks up her ears
Rises to her feet
Walks...trots...canters...
Until she’s in a full gallop
Her mane and tail
Whip in the wind
Then she comes to a halt
Settles down
For an afternoon nap
Closes her eyes
Sleeps...sleeps...sleeps...

The clock ticks…
My hands clench…
Am I running a fever?
My hand rises in a panic
The dull drab face
Of the teacher is
Instantly in mine
“Bathroom please?!”
Practically
Running to the restroom
Right up to the mirror
I’m looking at pale
Ghostly fingers
Touching a flushed face.
Reluctantly
my feet
Drag me back to my desk…
Petrified
I begin the TEST.

I sit
waiting
heart thumping,
and soft,
clammy hands
clenched.
Foot taps
repeatedly
against the floor.
Papers are
passed.
Confusion masks
many faces.
And then,
an idea!
Hand shoots up…
“Um, stomach ache?”
Tornadoes

I have a fear of something you can’t control or get rid of. It tears apart homes, buildings, and towns. What is it? A tornado.
Tornadoes make me feel unsafe. They make me feel horrified too. To me tornadoes are like a swirling tunnel that will wisk me to death. The reality is not many people die from them.

Under the dawn’s early pink light
A farmer awakens
He stretches his arms
Rubs his eyes
Slowly hobbles
Down the stairs
Creak,
The door opens
Out steps the farmer
He pauses on the steps
Slowly, proudly looking at his farm
He sighs,
And walks toward his barn
To begin his morning work.

Under a maple tree
The farmer feeds the chickens
Sprinkles the seeds down like rain
Across the ground
Walks to the pig pen
Recklessly throws
The slop in the bucket
Moves on to the cows
That need milking
Squeezes, squeezes
The warm udders
Drip, drip
Into the bucket
Until they don’t drip any more
He limps back to the porch
Rests his leg on a turned over sap bucket
Leans back on his rocking chair
Nods off.

Now, get out of my head.
I’m sick of you!
